Question regarding alarm
Hi all,
Does anyone know if the BRZ comes with an alarm? I have the keyless start on the 2017, I can lock the car with key fob or by touching the outside of the door handle. but how do i test if there's an alarm? I have never heard the horn sound. is this an additional feature? I tried doing this with the window down and i was able to unlock the door and open the door with out any alarm triggering. I'll have to admit that this keyless thingy takes getting use to, i used to always check that the doors is locked but now the door just opens again if i pull on the handle because the key is on me, I would have to toss the key away from the car and check,..sometimes i forget to lock it because i never have the keyfob on my hands. I close the door and start walking away....then realize i have to walk back to touch handle or pull keyfob from pocket... A better system would have been to lock the car as soon as you close the door and car detects keyfob is outside. Thanks. |

I think you can set it off by using the physical key from your fob to open the door or trunk while the car is locked. Shouldn't matter if you have the fob close by or not.
See this excerpt from the 2017 manual. It appears that the alarm is not activated by default, and needs to be enabled. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/pictu...ictureid=11500 I actually don't know if I checked that the alarm came activated on my car... something I will check tonight. |

Was it not an issue on earlier cars that during delivery inspection or at the factory the alarm was disabled by default and never re-enabled during purchase inspection? I seem to remember alot of people having that issue when I first joined the forums: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11049 |

I remember having to activate the feature to unlock both driver AND passenger door when you touch the handle. Never touched the alarm settings though. Though I think the kind of alarm we have will not get set off if someone smashes your window, only if they force a door open. I don't think it has any sensitivity to movement/impacts. |
As they have said above, some do. Mine did, but I had to activate it

Awesome info, thank you all. I will check this tomorrow and report back. I do see a blinking led on the dash now but not sure if it means car is locked.

Mine came with one but I installed an aftermarket one as well that integrates with the factory one. If you press the lock button three times the horn will honk.

You can add one though: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90429 |
Looks like no alarm for me....and manual does say "if equipped" on top of the page...with switch on I pressed unlock and openned door held button for a wile and nothing happens, no Horn. Nothing on the dash indicating alarm is active as manual indicates. When I lock the car there's a red car and lock icon that blinks but I can open door with metal key and nothing happens.

yes, I was one of them. My 2013 came with the alarm off and I had to activate it. So its been the same going forward? Alarm set to off even today? |

@wild03 - The instructions are really unintuitive:
1. Make sure you've pressed the push button start twice, not once. That's the "On" position. 2. Hold the door unlock button down, and when you open the door keep the interior door latch handle pulled out for the entire 10 seconds (while you keep pressing the unlock button with the other hand). |
