Question for those have flex fuel kit installed

Are you switching fuels from tank to tank or stick with with either petro or E85 most of time? I was told it’s not good for our gas tank if we fill up with E85 all the time since it was not designed for it, any truth to this?

Lantanafrs2 09-02-2018 05:21 PM

I've never heard that. I've been using e85 only for a while now. It's all theory....til it isnt

Yoshoobaroo 09-02-2018 05:30 PM

Absolute bullshit. Any modern car (last 10 years especially so) has a fuel system to handle E15 fuel for the life of the car. That means it's fine with pretty much any concentration of ethanol.

stlgrym3 09-02-2018 05:32 PM

So is it better for the car to stick with one fuel until you have the need for the other?

No, it really doesn't matter with a flexfuel sensor.

yes stick with e85 because it smells better and you can sniff the nozel when done

I rode 4 years on straight e85 and now I’ve been on 93 for a year and now I’m switching back to e85 lmao it doesn’t mater like stated before now a days the cats can handle it not like back in the olden days

The fuel switch is to help keep your valves clean. Ethanol does not have the detergents that pump gas has.

tomm.brz 09-03-2018 06:41 AM

? everybody always say that ethanol as a solvent cleans better the engine than petrol, you are now saying the opposite...

It depends where you get your gas. Ethanol itself works better as a solvent than gasoline, but top tier gasoline brands (Shell, Mobil, etc.) put extra detergents in the gasoline so it cleans better.

so you're suggesting use pump gas (such as daily driving) until i need the extra power?

citation needed, there is a federal requirement for what needs to go in

Top tier gas brands have been putting above the minimum needed since 1995, it's just a marketing tool now. The "extra" doesn't do anything except to convince you to get their brand.

I recommend you just run a tank of 91 here and there. I run 91 through my brz every 3-5 tanks or so, typically on my way back from the track (because there is no ethanol by the tracks and I only take as much as I need to run the day).
