Question regarding key fob.

Hi all, when I bought the car dealer only had one key and said it would mail me the second when whoever had it returned from vacation a week after, Its been 2 weeks and they cant f ind it so i was told they would order one and i had to go to get it programmed to the car.

Since dealer is pretty far I wanted to make sure i get the right item. Are both key fobs identical? i have keyless start. there's a metal key on the one i have now. Thanks.

They should be identical and both should enable the remote start

With the Limited MY17, you should have gotten two fobs for keyless access and keyless start, they both have a small physical key inside them.

If you have the small metal tag with a 5 digit number on it you can get the key cut. I think the dealer needs the car to program the replacement fob to match your locks/ignition switch though.

It's a good reason to take a drive. Good luck with your BRZ.

OK, went to pickup key today, 50min drive.
I was given a key that was clearly used, not that bad, but not out of the box, about the same wear as my current key fob after 3 weeks of use or so. I'm ok with that, But then I tried the metal key and its not the one for my car. Were they hoping i didn't notice? or honest mistake?
Guy apologized and asked me to come back next week. Filled my fuel tank which was 1/8 full.
He claims that the guy who programs keys comes every Thrusday, and that he was programming 3 keys today and gave my key to someone else...He will have my key next Thrusday....wow
