Wastegate flutter!!

What’s up guys

Since I switched to 15psi my car now has the typical wastegate flutter and it’s annoying! I’ve heard other boosted twins and they don’t flutter like this

Insight on my engine I have a built bottom end 10.5:1 ratio Manley turbo tuff rods. Full blown turbo kit with GTX28 1000cc injectors AEM fuel pump. I’m using a Mac 3port solenoid for boost control and a 10psi spring in my wastegate. Tuned by James Martin on 93 for now

When I’m on my 15psi map it flutters but when I’m on 10psi it does not. I saw the company 23 boost controller doesn’t do this but what other boost controllers do you guys have that don’t make this flutter or what have you done to correct it?

I will assume you mean turbo flutter.
As the wastegate has nothing to do with that sound.

I'm also going to assume it's not full on compressor surge that occurs while at WOT.

Figure out what your BOV needs to be set to.

If you mean the wastegate operation sound, that has to do with the wastegate duty cycle set within the Ecutek tune. Since James doesn't lock his tunes, you can edit this value yourself. He typically has his tunes set to 10, but you could experiment with higher numbers so the wastegate operates "faster" in that it opens and closes faster producing different sounds. I believe the map is called the "CPC Duty Multiplier" map, and Ecutek's tuning PDF has a section on this and they recommend 20-30.

It’s the typical subie flutter when you have an external wastegate. Not compressor surge and I have the proper spring in my BOV I’ve double checked with tial already

I’ll have to ask him I’d rather let him do it Incase I mess something up but yea the wastegate sound is what’s driving me up the wall. However I’m supposed to be at 15 but it starts at around 12 but the wastegate doesn’t actually open till 15

The "typical subie flutter" I see 9/10 is mistaken turbo flutter.
That's why I assume that first.

If this is what you are talking about, this is turbo flutter.
And is usually caused by the BOV not opening, or closing too soon.

If your wastegate is fluttering you would have sporadic boost.
This is wastegate flutter should sound like.
[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_MC8F1ANeo[/ame]
And even then isn't actual "flutter". His sounds like that because of the UEL exhaust leading to his wastegate.

This is actual wastegate flutter.

If number one.
BOV

If number 2/3.
Then yes since you have a kit with an EL header thats just your EBC doing that. I'd say that what Fred said would work.

Mine is more like video 3 so I guess I’ll talk with James and see if he can get that fixed for me

Yup, just ask him to increase the wastegate duty cycle/frequency. That will makes the wastegate operate with a higher frequency and should even out the sound.

I went back and forth with my tuner and he basically said it’s the boost solenoid rapidly opening and closing to help build the boost pressure quicker to spool the turbo faster. Gonna be updating my software with him shortly and try dial in the tune some more, when I get time from work.

Tbh, I hate to hear it too n hope that he can eventually find a way to get ride of it lol

The gtx3076 gen 2 turbo is a beast, pulls like a freight train to redline. 8k

N the gen2 gtx series turbo spool sound amazing

Made 461hp on 91 octane 27psi ( running very low compression because I have shit pump fuel where I live, CP 9.0:1)

Waiting until I upgrade my drivetrain to do E85

I have the gen 1 GTx28 on 93 so far only 15psi but I’m 10:5:1 haven’t dyno’d but I’m soon switching to 18psi on e85 maybe 20

wow - ok. SO my car sounds like example video #1. I just thought it was just the Tial blow off valve on my car sounding different than blow off valves I've had on other cars. Looks like I have some work to do.

Looked online and haven't found a video on how to adjust the Tial Q valve yet. From Tial's 'exploded view' diagram, it appears all I can do is change the spring?
