IIRC the fuel filter is inside the fuel pump and does not need to be changed.

My owners manual says replace at 75k.

But it also says “clutch operation” at 75k as well?

What do?

Neither need to be replaced until they start showing signs of problems, regardless of mileage. The owners manual is based on tests the manufacturer has done on the car and doesnt accurately represent real world driving.

Although this may be the case for the fuel filter, some of the items it should be done way sooner like transmission fluid etc. Its a decent estimate as to when to change things if not sooner. The service intervals are mostly based on life expectancy and degradation of fluids or wear at an "average" use scenario

A dealership or mechanic will definitely charge $500-$600 for that and that depends on where you go and where you live. You have to remove the rear seats access the fuel sender :

For our cars unless you begin to have performance symptoms common to a clogged filter, it's not necessary. Modern fuels and pumps have much less issues with blockages than they used to, probably something to do with tank design quality and how the fuel is stored.

You can do it yourself and save money. YouTube it.
The fuel pump looks complicated but it's like legos, a couple of smaller parts that make up the unit.

But like others said you don't need to replace it, be ok if you did but it's your wallet.

I've seen a lot of people ask about pricing on the fuel filter topic. I too noticed the suggestion for fuel filter replacement at 75K in my manual. My 2013 FRS is at the dealer currently because I can' t get a drop of gas in it so I asked them to scope the filler neck and check the Fuel filter. They claim the neck looks good and that the fuel filter should last the life of the vehicle but would cost $213 to replace. They believe the issue is the charcoal canister, and I'm looking at 1100 for the canister, $300 for the neck (if I want that added on) and $213 for the fuel filter. I just want some consistency in this information :iono:

Charcoal canister is the likely culprit. Fuel filter should only be changed if you are serving the pump for another reason or having issue.

I got one of these DW fuel pumps as a replacement. They're pretty cheap and come with installation instructions.

Check out your 8-year Federally required emission system warranty. Most of these parts should be covered. Specified major emission control components are covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles
