Out of town...Remove DCC Fuse or Battery ?

Hello,

I understand from the Svc Manual,
there's a DCC Fuse (aka Direct Circuit Connection fuse or D/C Cut fuse) which the Factory remove before shipping the vehicle to dealer.
Dealer are suppose to re-install the Fuse to the correct slot prior delivering the vehicle to customer.
The Manual state this is to prevent battery consumption during shipping.

So if you are going out-of-town for like 2/3 weeks,
would it make sense to just remove the DCC Fuse or to remove the Neg Terminal of the battery ?
(I will need to get tooling for the battery...14mm i suppose?)

Anyone know if the DCC Fuse will disable everything (like disconnecting the battery),
or it will only disable selected devices.

Many Thanks

I wouldn't worry about the battery going out after 2-3 weeks.

It's only 2-3 weeks. Don't worry about it.
If you're going somewhere for 6 months, then maybe start thinking about battery things.

As others have said, that's a short time frame so I'd leave it alone.

Thanks Guys

Does that still apply if the battery is 2-3yrs old ?

Also,
if you disable the battery (fuse or remove terminal),
any thought on whether it will reduce or increase the risk of theft (if not park inside private garage).

Regards

Maybe it depends on the battery. My OEM battery was a turd. Two weeks was about the max you could leave it sitting and be able to count on it starting.

And yes, I'm sure it was the battery. I have a Duracell AGM in it now, and the problem is gone. My engine also used to stumble when I turned the lights on (from the first week I had it). I though it was just a quirk of the car, but that issue has stopped with the new battery as well. It amazes me that Subaru would ship the cars with such a piece of crap in it.

If you are looking for piece of mind, your local parts store likely provides a battery test[most cases it is free] to determine the life cycle on the battery.

3 weeks isn't long enough to drain a good functioning battery. Just make sure you don't leave anything that could draw on the system while you are gone.
