How long does it take to get a vehicle order number?

I put in an order at the local Subaru dealer for a 2018 BRZ last Saturday. I still haven't received a Subaru confirmation email with a vehicle order number or date of delivery yet. I called the dealer 2 days ago to make sure they had my email as I wasn't sure if I gave it to them and the salesman told me they are still waiting for information from the factory then they would email me.

Does it usually take this long? A person I talked to on reddit said they got theirs the same day which is why I'm concerned.

I don't know what's normal, but when I ordered mine the salesperson was able to give me a VON the same day the order was placed.

Thanks for the reply. I called the dealer for a second time and was given a vehicle order number but no arrival estimate and I still haven't received an email.

Make sure they got your email correct. My dealer typed my email in wrong, and even though they went back and corrected it right away, it was too late. If they get it wrong initially, that's it; you won't get any emails regarding order status from Subaru. For some reason, once it's first put in their system, that's what they go by. Not sure why they can't correct it, but I ended up having to call Subaru customer service or my salesperson every few weeks to check and see if there were any updates.

By the way, at least with mine, there weren't any changes for weeks. Once a VIN was finally assigned though (which took somewhere between 6-8 weeks), then things started moving very rapidly. Went from nothing to full speed in almost no time. All in all, it took me about 10 weeks from the order initially going in the system to the car arriving at the dealership.

VON from the sales person the day I ordered.

As far as email, my sales person just entered his email IIRC, and then I'd email him for updates. No big deal.

VONs are instantly generated when an order is submitted.

Are orders for 18s even still open?

Yeah! We just ordered one on Sunday. Orders for 18s opened late November so it’ll be a while before they close orders.

Check your spam folder. Mine was there for a week before I found it.

Wow, that's actually really cool 2018s can still be ordered. Did dealers add any extra fee for ordering or is it just placing a deposit down that's involved?

We discussed how much it would cost out the door after taxes and fees and all that. (It came to $29,770 for a limited with performance package) and I placed a $1000 deposit and went home.

I still have not received an email after confirming they had my correct email address, but the sales manager gave me my order # (which was a 5 digit number I hope it's correct) and said the factory accepted the order on June 12th.

The fact that your in NJ makes it even better, back when I bought my FR-S in 2015 the toyota dealership legitimately said theres no way to order 2016s or 2015s and they get what they get. So I simply bought an auto off there lot.

I think if I sell this one and get another I'll for sure spend more time to find a dealer that will take an order.

They had a '17 premium and a 18 tS on the lot but didn't pressure me at all to try to buy them. I even mentioned another dealer had the exact car I wanted but it was sitting on the lot for at least a month so I wanted to order one instead and they didn't try to convince me otherwise at all.
