AC Delete not as much weight as advertised

Read in Anthonys post where he saved about 30lbs removing AC & components .

Just did this today using the Raceseng AC delete pulley kit which is very nice but I only saved about 15lbs

Here is the Raceseng kit about ~2.25lbs very light and very well constructed

Here is the AC compressor ~9.75lbs

Here is the AC radiator and all the underhood piping ~7.25lbs

Gives me a net weight loss of 14.75lbs not as much as expected

At looks like Anthony counts all the vents and motors underneath the dash.
Is there another AC component under the Dash I can take out that not hurt the ability to use the heat?

The a/c piping will go into the dash into an evaporator core. Looks similar to the condenser.

I'm also assuming the refrigerant weighs something.

Did you see the pic? I have no idea what I'm looking at but it might lend a clue.

Yep, that white plastic part that the condesor core is leaning against in the scale picture is the under dash blower/evap core/heater core complex. It weights a fair amount, and then there are the vents in the dash, the tubing under there, etc. Removing all of it nets the full amount.

That condesor is the one I pulled from in front of the radiator it has the same brackets. So everyone is saying there is another one under the dash?

I watched his youtube video and I only see him pulling the big white dash vent setup I don't see another condesor [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hh1uPEurKIA[/ame]

I want to keep my heatercore/vents all that intact for the winter

The refrigerant condenses in the core in front of your radiator, gets compressed by the compressor, then evaporates in the evaporator core under the dash. This evaporation action takes latent heat to accomplish, thus it gets the evap core cold. Blow air through it - vioala! Cold AC air. So yep, there is a core in that white box motor/vent piece Anthony pulled.

If you removed the lines completely from under hood, then you unbolted the bulkhead connector to the evap core that lives in the box he removes in the video.

Yes I saw the bulkhead connector coming out the firewall. Not ready to tear out the whole dash right now but If I have a reason I will get to it. Then reinstall the remaining vents and heatercore

Thanks everyone

If you are keeping the heater and the fan, vents and ducts for it, you will not see a significant weight improvement. The evaporator itself is less than 2 pounds. It's likely about 1/2 the weight of the condenser under the hood.

I had the same weight gains like you. I am not willing to take the dash apart and the heater is fully functional. Is this white box under the dash only for the AC? I would assume that it necessary for the heater too.

It holds the blower motor so it's necessary for heater function as well, yep. as well as switching which vents are blowing air, etc.

Yeah the front one which should be bigger was about 3-4lbs. I am going to leave it alone.

It should be labeled

AC Delete - 15lbs
HVAC Delete - 30lbs

One last question. We have 2 fans upfront one should be for cooling/overheating purposes the other should turn on when the AC is turned on? I would like to find out which one is for the AC that could be some extra weight maybe 5lbs?

It looks that 45121*A is needed and 45121*B is only for the AC model, but I never removed it.

So it looks like the driver side one could go which is great since the weight would come off the heaviest side.

I went outside to test and both my fans kick on with the AC button pressed.
