Hissing/ticking sound under load
Hey all, I installed my nrw exhaust today which consists of:
Gruppe-S UEL Tanabe Overpipe Invidia Resonated Front Pipe GReddy Supreme SP catback With OFT V4.03 Stage 2+ Tune. I noticed when under load, I can hear a hissing/ticking that sounds like it's coming from under the car. It gets quieter over time as the car heats up which leads me to believe it's an exhaust leak, but I can't hear it at idle, or startup/ turn off, and there's also no hesitation or lack of acceleration, the power is all there. Does it sound like an exhaust leak? I also installed an AVO Panel Filter and had to fight it a bit to get it in as it was quite snug. Could it be coming from that? Doesn't sound like anything until we hear a recording. :/
Exhaust-port leaks do tick. That's a strong sign. Thin headers hiss, or maybe more whoosh at high flow. That's likely normal. |

Logs should show you if you have an exhaust leak.
Thin headers and the DI system could easily be what you hear. |
I get a hissy kind of sound with my OFT headers. I haven't checked for a leak, but I suspect it's just the sound they make.

I have an "air escaping" noise that I can only hear under light throttle/low rpm when there is something next to me for the sound to bounce off of. Sounds like it's coming from under the passenger side of the car. I went under the car probably 5-6 times to check for leaks before I accepted that's just how my setup sounds. The only other thing I could think of is movement at the front/mid pipe connection where the donut loses its seal. But if it's sealing at idle, I'm not concerned about that.

Took this quick video of it after work today on my phone, fresh off a cold. You can hear it when the gas is pressed

im not hearing it. if its ticking it could be an exhaust leak or injectors

I believe it may be the gaskets where the header meets the head not sealing properly, as it goes away as the car heats up, and if I drive it for more than 20-30 mins, goes away completely. I remember having these symptoms on my MR2 before replacing the manifold gasket. Either way, I'm sending my car out on Friday to have the coilovers installed/aligned at a Subaru/Porsche specialist shop here, and I when I mentioned it to them, they said they'd take a look at it, and the connections/welds and see if they can find the leak |
