Front Pipe Gasket
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all, I'm changing my front pipe from a catless SME to a Catted Xforce FP. However, whilst installing I noticed that there doesn't seem to be any room for the donut gasket to slot between. Do I need to use a donut gasket, or any other gaskets, or does it just bolt on? Will provide a picture of the connection between the FP and Catback bellow. Cheers

Is this front frontpipe to mid pipe (towards the back) or front pipe to overpipe (towards the front)? The donut gasket is sandwiched between the two pipe at the rear portion, going to the mid pipe. The two pipes bolted together do not 100% close the gap (in my experience anyway). You just put the donut on the front pipe and bolt it together so it is held in place.
Here's a picture of the connection http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93368 |
Yes, this is the connection between the Midpipe and Front pipe. My previous front pipe had a holding place for the gasket(like almost all front pipes besides my new one) to put the donut gasket between the two is almost impossible as only one of the two bolts will thread through and the donut cant physically be wedged in as a result, hence why I thought perhaps a flat gasket may be more suitable?

That would call for a flat gasket.

I used a spare flat and it doesn't close off properly.

Also, its hard to tell from your picture and it mostly likely just an illusion from the angle but the left flange looks nice and flat, but the right side doesn't look so nice a flat, even a little warped. Might be worth checking out. Is the Xforce FP 3" in diameter? That hole on the right looks much bigger. If so, maybe a 3" gasket for that connection is more suitable? I have no experience with 3" piping leading to a 2.5". |
