Anyone else just living with their timing cover seeping?

I've had it resealed twice and it's been ok for the last year until I changed my oil the other day and noticed it's slowly seeping. It's not bad but sucks as my warranty ended 2 months ago.

I'm considering just driving the car as it is since it's not leaking horribly, I'll just wipe it clean every 5k miles oil change.

But I'm curious what it would cost to get it resealed (I'd probably request a new timing cover as well) out of pocket?

I had a local shop identify this for mine too just a little while ago :/ mine is just a slow seep and thankfully is on the driver's side so it won't drip onto the hot header. I asked the guy for cash how much he'd do it for and labor alone he said probably at least $300 as he has to lift the engine, but through a dealershit it will cost a pretty penny. Unless it's bad I would suggest just letting it be and wipe it down when you can, being sure to keep an eye on it every couple hundred miles.

Wish you the best!

Bubba says to just tape a sponge over the leak and change it every oil change .....

Ask the dealership if they will cover it under warranty even though you're over. They may even split the cost with you.

Well luckily these cars eat rod bearings so you can just reseal the cover while rebuilding the engine. Hahaha.

I think I'll live with it until I hit about 100k, I'll do a coolant flush and then reseal while I can do the work without the radiator installed.

Just don't change the oil for a year or so and eventually it will thicken up and plug the leak.

Reminds me of the opposite ..... back-in-the-day. As long as you used non-detergent oil ..... your engine didn't leak ..... but then put that new detergent oil in it ...... and it leaked.......:sigh:

Yup. Mine has been like that for a long while. Not bad but it builds up over time so I know its happening

Wonder if using a heavier weight oil would help as well.

Well, back in the day, that would work. For the crank case, we would mix 30W with gear oil. For the transmission, we would use gear oil. For the differential, we would pump the differential full of axle grease and top it off with gear oil.

However, for these cars, I wouldn't recommend that ...... :D
