Fitment help 😅
So I just bought some ambit re02s 18 x9.5 +38 and am going to buy either tein super low flex z’s or street basis z’s coilovers but don’t know What kind of tire specs can somewhat make me achieve this look, I’m not trying to go to low but lower than stock for sure. Would 245 or 255 40 18 work with no rubbing issues ? :thanks: :bonk:

How low are you trying to go? I am 17x9 +38 with 245's and I rub under the fender liner on hard cornering. I am also 2 inches lower then stock. Your camber will also effect fitment quite a bit.

Depending on how low you go, you may also need LCA and endlinks.
Don't get 245/40 or 255/40. They have to large of a diameter. Get 245/35 or 255/35; they will fit better and will keep your speedo accurate. 245/35/18 is stock diameter. You could run 245/35 front and 255/35 rear also if you wanted. |

Street basis reuse the stock tophats. You will get some rear camber by lowering the car, but no way to adjust it. FlexZ has tophats with camber adjustment. A 245/40/18 is 25.7" diameter. Stock is 24.6" diameter, which is larger than a 3% difference. (which is the general rule of thumb for plus sizing - less than 3% difference) I have seen guys run that size to though. I would still get 35 series.
I lowered my car 1" and have -2.2 rear natural camber. (no adjustment) So, if you go lower you will have more, unless you have a way to adjust it. I tried to find a answer if you will NEED lca, but it really depends on the coils you get, tire you choose, and amount you lower the car. Some guys do not need them, and some do. Anyway, you should read through the meaty tire thread. It is THE thread for this size of wheel. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41083 |
One "needs" rear lca if one needs rear camber adjustment.
Common cases are if one needs performance oriented alignment, if one wishes to change handling for specific result, if resulting camber is too different side to side, if one wishes to dial back negative camber from lowering to stock values. Well, and if specific camber is needed for wide tire/wheel clearance. If it fits none of the above cases, of course there is no need adding adjustability feature in way of aftermarket adjustable rear LCAs. I find that adding camber adjustability is nice thing to have even for non tracked stock cars, as stock alignment can be rather uneven and alignment out of whack can impact handling in negative way even when daily driving. In cheapest form of front camberbolts + cheap LCA (like spc/whiteline/eibach) it's not THAT expensive. |
I just fitted 255/35/18 to my wheels of the same specs you listed. Have a look in my build thread for pics but they fit fine and don’t rub on anything. I also fitted rear control arms and toe links to fix the rear camber when you go lower, however I’m only lowered about an inch
