Fortune Auto 500s for free, sorta..
So this is going to be an interesting trial and error process but I'm going to post as it goes.
A few weeks ago a fellow 86 owner in my area reached out to me because I posted a WTB on facebook for coils. He just recently had his FA 500s replaced with brand new ones, he left his old ones at the shop that did it to be trashed. He told me he went and picked them up and that they're in usable condition (technically) but the height adjustment is seized, besides that, they're completely fine and if I knew that the fitment would be right I'd just run them. Does anyone here have any experience with loosening up coils and getting them free? I reached out to Fortune Auto and they're willing to rebuild them for me for $600 which is an awesome deal either way if I cant fix them. Thanks to anyone who gives me any advice, I'll give you guys updates as I go about this. Picking them up tomorrow. almost 2 hours driving each way but it's going to be worth it. https://i.imgur.com/YktwOyx.png |
soak those boys in some WD40

I mean, FortuneAuto is going to have to unseize them themselves. :bonk: |

My uneducated opinion is that those springs are fucked and should be replaced.

After WD-40 or even better Deep Creep.
Center punch/screwdriver/ect and BFH |

Unseizing the height or not im still most likely gonna get the rebuild for $600 since its just logically the smart thing to do, but if i can run these for say 1-3k miles this summer when there is no salt and rebuild them this winter that would be legit |
I don't know. That amount of rust on the springs just makes me weary to run the coils period.

I’d suggest spraying them liberally with PB B’laster Penetrant or just send them back to Fortune Auto as is and let them deal with it - if they screw them up, I’m sure they’ll make things right by you.

Small update for you guys,
After a long day of dealing with Maryland idiots who cant drive and almost getting backed into by a soccer mom (she was deadass 3-4 inches from hitting me.) THE COILS ARE MINE! They're in a box in my garage. Missing a bushing for one of the rears so im not even going to chase it down. Inquiring on a rebuild from FortuneAuto Tuesday. If i can get it done for $600 I'll hand them the money in a week or two and slap them on the car. IM HYPE. |
