Oil Leak

2 Attachment(s)
Hi I have a 2013 FR-s and was doing some work to it and i noticed that under the passanger side of the motor it is leaking quite a bit of oil. Was just wondering if this was a common issue and what the cause might be. There is no oil on top of the motor its all on the bottom so its gotta be coming from somewhere down there.

Normally they seem to leak near the water pump on the driver's side due to a poor seal on the timing chain cover. I suspect your source is the timing chain cover seal as well, but on the passenger's side. I'd clean up all of the oil off the motor and drive it for a day or so. You should be able to localize the source of the oil leak at that point.

You can use almost any degreaser but finish up with brake cleaner to dry the area.
Check frequently.

My timing chain cover leak was on the passenger side. It was nowhere near as severe as this but it dripped onto the header and smoked terribly when the car was stopped.

Yea it was leaking on to the header as well. Ill Clean it up and see if i cant find a specific spot that its leaking but i cant drive the car currently hopefully in a couple days.

might clean it up and add some uv dye to your crankcase.

So I cleaned it up and it sat for a few days and now you can tell right where it is leaking. Is this still the timming chain cover or is this coming from somewhere else?

Is there any evidence of it running down the side of the motor before it accumulates in a drip? Or, is it just accumulating in a drip where the picture shows?

No sign of it leaking down from somewhere just coming out where i pictured it
