Super sensitive steering?
 

Hey everyone, just picked up a 2014 BRZ Limited w/24k miles on it a few days ago. I've got a bit of a concern and thought I might have the answer but just found out that wasn't the case.

Under hard acceleration, approaching higher speeds 70+ the front end feels super unstable, almost like i'm unable to keep the car in a straight line. I took it in to have the alignment and toe checked and both came back spot on. The car is entirely stock and they checked underneath and didn't see any signs of damage or wear. Cruising at 80+mph I can literally tap the steering in one direction and the car jerks hard. Is this common with the BRZ/FRS?

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks for the help in advance.

It's a sports car with quick ratio steering. What kind of car are you coming from?

It's best used for when people on the highway are just perfectly spaced out so you cannot pass, but because you're driving a twin then you can just insert yourself in between them with a quick jerk of the wheel.

what exactly is "spot on" for your alignment? AFAIK, the OEM alignment is a wide range.

Not sure exactly what your version of a tap is. Like others said if your new to this cheap sports car then it gets some getting used to.

I would suggest you ask the mechanic drive it at the same speeds. That way they can identify the problem, if any.

OP, what are your tire pressures?

Focus ST, lol. i'm used to torque steer.

i can take my pinky, put it on the bottom of the steering wheel, barely flinch it and the steering responds like I put a lot of input into it.

I honestly didn't think to actually check, tire shop said they were good and it just slipped my mind, i'll go out and check it in just a few moments.

Stock tires? Probably not right cuz of the year and mileage of the car.

Did you get a printout from the alignment tech? I wonder what's your caster.

I love how you say "cheap" sports as if the steering is bad. Literally the most liked thing about the twins is the steering response and feel.

Need to find the guy on here that said he was developing an injury because his steering was so stiff and trade cars!

When I first took my twin on the highway it felt to me like it drifted off course very easily. Turns out it was just the effect of a short wheelbase, sensitive steering ratio (13.2:1 If I recall, identical to the STI) and possibly combined with RWD. Mechanic test drive necessary.
