TPMS and Canadian vehicles
Hey guys,
I inquired with the dealer if the Candian spec BRZs have TPMS sensors or not. The response was not 100% certain, but the indication is no. Can anyone verify 100% that there are no TPMS sensors on Canadian BRZs? |
I'm fairly certain that my BRZ doesn't have it - no light on the dash, the valves on the wheels are the standard rubber ones.
|
really? i thought these became standard safety equipment on all new cars a while back
|
I was under the impression that it came with TPMS and that it was mandatory, but I just checked https://canadasafetycouncil.org/node/895 and apparently it's not mandatory in Canada. That's cool if our BRZs don't have them, should save some money when I buy winters.
|
I think they are on the FR-S, and nothing in the BR-Z. Also i thought that these basic saftey feature should be standard, but i guess not.

I can confirm they are on the FR-S in Canada, I had a puncture last week and the TPMS alerted me to it.
I will say I was grateful for that. I picked up a screw and would have come out to a flat tire in the morning so it saved me a headache. Still would rather not have it, but I'll live with it. |
What it means is that if you move to the USA you cannot take the Canadian sold BRZ with you as it does not have TPMS which is required after Sept 1 2007 for 2008 models, it is almost impossible to retrofit. FRS should be OK as it does have TPMS, might be worth considering if you are purchasing and considering a job change down the road!

Interesting. This means the TPMS must be easy to turn off via flash if Subaru Canada was able to have it done. I was hoping the FR-S wouldn't have it but alas.

Damn, new wheels go on tomorrow... anyone know how much dealership sells TPMS for? Is it in valve stem or is it inside wheel?

Or you can follow the DIY to put tape over the light and never see it again. It does NOT stop you from turning off VSC/Trac unlike some cars... I'm just going to move mine to the new wheels and not have sensors in the winter tires. Then wait for new sensors that allow you to clone your existing ones (then you can switch back and forth and the car won't care which set is on). |
You can build a TPMS Pipe Bomb.
Use PVC Piping that is large enough to hold all 4 sensors, Put 2 Caps on it. 1 Which should have a Tire Valve. Seal it up with epoxy or w/e you can find to get a high pressure seal Inflate the tube to 35 PSI. Set it and forget it somewhere in your car. Its what us Lexus Guys Do lol. PS. DO NOT USE AFTERMARKET SENSORS. They Dont work well at all. http://mysite.verizon.net/steven.wong6/tpms.jpg |

Mazdas for example are self-learning... I think (or I'd like to believe) that for cars that only have a 'dumb' warning light instead of a per-wheel pressure readout on the dash there's a good chance it will be self learning. |

Can you confirm which one you have please? Thanks |
