Suggestions on tire size for a stock 2015 FRS
 

I am looking at changing the original tires on my stock FRS. It has stock suspension and stock rims. I was thinking about going with Michelin Super Sports or Michelin Super Sport 4S. I live in South Texas (Extreme Heat).

Also, I was thinking about going up in size from the 215/45R17's to 245/40R17, or should I consider 245/45r17's. My thoughts are that the 245/40r17 will have better grip on the road. This care is a daily driver.

245 are going to be a stretch for the stock wheels. Stock wheels would be better suited to a 235 in my opinion. That said what are the main things you do with the car.

if it is a daily there is absolutely no reason to go up in size, tire compound is what gives you traction. The infinitesimal amount of grip you will gain by having a wider tire is not worth it outside of timed events.

Stick with a 205 or 215 sized tire for dding. Only if you are thinking of competing do you need to go wider, and 245 really should be on a 9 inch wide wheel.

I wouldn't go any wider than 225 on the stock 7" wheels, and 215 is a better fit on them.

Stock wheels, I'd stick with 215. If you want wider tires, you should get wider wheels. 8.5" to 9" for 245/40-17s.

Wider tires aren't going to give you that much more in terms of grip on the street anyway.

I may live about 70 miles south of you. My plan is to stick with 215s. IMO the only things 235s or wider will buy on stock car with the stock wheels are a pinched contact patch, heavier steering, lower mpg, and a lighter wallet.

Oh yeah. The look. But I'm 64, I haven't picked up chics with a car in 40 years and I don't get the impression the twins are chic bait even if that was the plan.

Dude.. You'd be surprised. The amount of "chic's" that have looked at this car and were like: wtf, so nice, w0w, want touch, is porsche? Is surprising. It also helps to live in an area where every second car isn't a M series, AMG, or any other supercar/super luxury car under the moon.

You don't need better grip for a daily, and compound has more to do with it then width. Primacies actually aren't bad, but there are plenty of UHP summer tires that you'll be happy with in stock size. Also note the wider and stickier your set-up is your MPG will drop a little.


215 or 225 MPSS/MPS4S is more then fine
