Coilpack issue P0353 after track session

Not sure if this is the right place for this but it is track related so here we go.

I got the CEL in one of my session P0353 so I have to skip my last session and call it a day. After arriving home still has the CEL, left the car off and parked. When I needed to transfer the car, I noticed the CEL is gone. What is the best way to approach this? Will it comeback on my next track session? I saw some post that they bring extra updated coilpack or just change the coilpack that triggered the code with the updated one. What did you guys do? Searched also that the wiring harness was changed but never really had a TSB for iy. Thank you. Car is MY14 40k miles. All stock except for the axleback. Thank you.

I had the same thing happen to me last year at the track. The CEL went away bc the coilpacks fail when they are hot. The second they cool down to an acceptable temp they start working again. Sometimes. Others have not had such good luck and have misfires and other issues.

HERE is the thread that helped me with this issue. I recommend some cool tape or some hood venting and to carry an extra. See my build thread for cool tape and venting pics.

Once they throw a code, they will do it more and more easily. I had mine replaced along with the entire wiring harness under warranty and that seems to have fixed it (at least temporarily).

When I finally gave up and took it into the dealer, I could get the code to trip by just revving past 6k rpm (no high temps required).

How did the gold cool tape go so far? did you have to change your coilpacks?

I've done another 6-8 trackdays and about a dozen autocrosses without any issues. I've spent literally hours above 6k rpms since then and haven't had the issue return.

I had done fewer events before I originally got the CEL, so I think the problem is fixed.

Wow. That is so nice that it have not come back. I have an event coming up next month but just not sure coz if I get the CEL and that might just waste my day at the track.
So the fix was the harness and the coilpacks being replaced? what did you do to get the dealer fix them? I searched about the harness thing but i dont really see an actual TSB for it. the CEL is gone and ive been trying to do a pull at WOT in all gears but no CEL yet.

Unfortunately I do not have results to share. I did this over the winter and here in NY the weather is still terrible. My first track event with these modifications is April 24th. I have heard that the tape method works tho.

I moved the coil packs that were above the over pipe to the driver side and vise versa. I also have a brand new spare just in case.

Do you happen to have the new harness part number? I would like to do this as well.

Coilpack issue P0353 after track session

Subaru TSB 07-120-17R. Not sure on the Toyota TSB #. Yes the bulletin involves replacing the engine wiring harness and all 4 coils. The updated parts were used starting with 2015 MY production.

Okay. Currently the CEL disappeared itself w/o me clearing it but most likely it is stored right? Can I bring it to the dealer and tell them that that code came up?

Takumi788 03-20-2018 01:30 PM

Got it. Thanks! Harness # 24020AG080 Coil part # 22433AA730 - embarrassingly enough it was in that thread that I linked in my first post.

The CEL should be in the memory, you could probably get it to come back by revving up near redline (I had mine clear and stay off for months of daily driving only to come back on track early). You can continue tracking with the CEL, performance is marginally decreased but only near redline and not enough to ruin your day.

My dealer changed everything without any fuss, but they've been great to me with warranty work (I pulled in for them to document the code after driving straight from the track with my helmet in the passenger seat and stickers still on the car).

The new coilpacks for MY15+ are a different shape from the 13-14 ones, so you couldn't just swap to the new coils.
