Cable throttle

Anyone fitted an engine which uses a cable throttle rather than FBW?

What are the options when it comes to this? Change the pedal to a cable connection? Convert the OEM pedal to a cable connection? Replace the TB for a FBW alternative?

Cheers

FBW is the easiest.

Cars don't work like that anymore. You can't just wire up a throttle wire. There's a whole lot of stuff going on when you hit the gas pedal and the days of directly opertaing the throttle are long gone

How big of a pilot valve are you running?

I'd say it's the best, not always the easiest. Just need to make sure it definitely is the easiest option

Hoping we can wire a FBW TB into the engine loom and the Motec we're using will pick it up

I have no idea what a pilot valve is? :iono:

Seeing as the engine we're using is a cable driven TB, it was worth asking to see if changing to a cable setup was worth it

As above, hoping we can use the Motec ECU to keep a FBW setup and just stick a new TB on the intake and incorporate it into the engine loom we're making

I meant pilot jet. If you are going to go to a wire throttle I assumed you were into retro chic or steampunk and you would be using a carburetor.

I'm going to go out on a pretty substantial limb and say the motec is expecting to be controlling the throttle FBW...

So in theory we just stick on a new TB (maybe something off an LS?) and wire it into the FBW inputs for the Motec

Thanks for confirming

Yes that will work.

When setting up DBW (not FBW - it's not a plane) you need the ECU to be able to operate the motor of the throttle body which will include the sensors of the plate range. The pedal just outputs a voltage range so is a sensor input as per anything else. I would assume that any decent Motec is capable of this. A cable setup is much harder to implement.

You could use any electronic throttle body that's the right size, the wiring is different depending on make but if you're custom wiring it anyway then it makes it easy to pick based on requirements and budget. This also gives you a better selection than cabled systems.

Reviving this thread.

I'm currently starting the parts gathering to swap my LS from my 1971 240z over to my FRS.
Its a cable driven throttle body with stand alone harness megasquirt ECU.

Looking at the firewall around the throttle pedal, it seems cramped.

Has anyone done this? I've seen photos of some element tuning car with a cable throttle in it. But I cant seem to find much info or parts necessary.

What will become of the 240z??

Selling it http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/1288...ing-car-parts/

I've got about six or seven people interested in it right now, next person is looking at it this upcoming tuesday. Hoping it sells soon, it'll be funding the parts for the FRS LS swap.
