5.8 quarts too much?

So i changed out my break in oil and i put 5.8 quarts in yesterday as per recommended by the manual. Now i go to check my oil levels tonight after it had been sitting and it looks like the oil is going well beyond the fill line. We made sure to put 5.8 in, so im very perplexed. Is this going to hurt the cats and engine? :iono:

Make sure the car is level when you check it. Also, run it for a minute to fill up the filter and get oil throughout the engine. Turn off, then check.

If you over filled, then let some out. Next time when filling, put in 5 quarts then run and check and then add the other .8 if necessary.

I believe everyone who has posted about the oil change has said 5.8 is too much. I wonder what is the sweet spot. I think I read somewhere else it was about 5.4

I did 5.5 with "stock" filter. I put 5 in, dvds then added and tested levels 2 more times until prefect.

To put 5.8 in is to assume you drained 5.8 out... so, since you didnt remove 100% of the oil ( not practically possible) you should not have refilled 100% of the capacity.

Fumoto valve... I think I say it in every oil thread.

I left the stock filter and put in about 5.2 quarts.

I have one of the FR-S launch meetings brochure that was given to dealer employees to get familiar with the car. It states oil capacity is 5.5 quarts.

Why would you leave the used filter on there? That negates the benefits of clean oil, it all runs through a dirty filter.

Should be fine...we put about that much in our FRS.

My K&N filter came a day late. I already had it drained cause I switched out the ATF as well. Gotta do whatcha gotta do sometimes.

Stock ones are good Toyo Roki filters, so no, don't see the point.

I think using any or most aftermarket oil filters is useless. I don't think theres enough advantage to cover the amount paid for them. There's an oil analysis around here after 4500 miles showing exceptional performance from the oem piece. My car used 5.5qts after the 150ml change, I think most cars will vary slightly due to amount drained, burnt and so forth.
