*FIXED* JDL UEL Header - Whooshing Noise

*FIXED* Check out post 16 for what the issue was

So got my JDL UEL header installed about a week ago, and I didn't really go under load until I got my EcuTek package from DT this week, and they had me do the 3rd gear full throttle pulls and the car sounds a lot different.

It almost sounds like an exhaust leak, but yesterday I literally went under there and retorqued ever bolt since it had been through a few heat cycles. It sounds like its coming from under the passenger side, is this just the sound tube? I was never annoyed by it before on the stock header, is it just worse once you go catless? Here's the clip! Thanks guys.

Heres a full pull datalog incase anything in there points to a leak:

Thinner manifold materials don't insulate sound as well ;) It's commonly reported when people fit aftermarket manifolds.

Awesome that's what I wanted to hear! Nothing in the log point to leak right?

I have JDL UEL and doesnt sound like that, i dont have cabin sound tube so maybe could be that?

See that's what I thought the sound might be, also are you tuned on EcuTek or OFT?

That sounds awesome. Almost like it's boosted lol. Whoooossshhhh. Although I can see how it can be annoying. When I drive with the seats down, I can hear the fuel being sucked out of the tank and it's loud as hell. Starts to grate after a while, especially since I took all the trunk trim out

I can confirm it disappears once you have an axleback as the car is indeed louder with the glorious exhaust sound. I have a nameless axleback as well as cnt catless uel tuned with OFT. Thinner wall headers make this sound quite a bit. In fact if you took off the heat shield and insulation material on the stock header I'm quite sure it would make a similiar sound.

+1 normal welcome to aftermarket headers
exhaust leaks at the header or upstream of cats and resonators sound like nothing else

Teseo 02-18-2018 07:02 AM

Comfirmed. It sound like op described.

Awesome thanks guys!

Last thing that I will be asking DT about once theyre back in the office is that I had a P015A engine code when I scanned with my bluetooth, but no check engine light, is that just random? Maybe it came up and then went away or is that the disabled code for the cat?

When I google it on the forums I find one other 2017 owner with it and everyone told him it was a bad O2

That’s me! It didn’t end up being the O2 sensor. As soon as I went to better quality 91 oct, I haven’t seen the code appear again. Maybe it was coincidence, not sure.

Wouldn't matter either way.
Still can't wrap my head around how people would even think that makes a difference in this case.:bonk:
