Check Engine Light/Car Shaking

Ive had turbo kit for around 2000 miles. No problems, except check engine light has turned on twice at VERY different situations.

First time. I simply went to go check my mail, and it turned on right before I got out to do so. Texted tuner, didn't respond. I checked for leaks. Had a PCV hose leak. Got a better hose. It went away. That was about 3-4 weeks ago. (Kinda feel like an ***hole texting tuner as priority lol)

Second Time. I am currently breaking my clutch in. 400 miles in. I figured doing 2 pulls would be that bad, as long as my engagements are smooth. I did 2 pulls and hit 9 PSI (set to 7) on the second one. LIGHT turned on. I stopped at a red light and notice the car was shaking while I was inside. Like this video: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a0n6RM0t1g"]FRS Shaking 4 - YouTube[/ame]

Then it stopped.

Does anyone boosted get check engine lights as often? Only when over boosting?

Has any one experienced any shaking like the video? If so, what is that?

Planning on doing a more thorough check today for leaks.

That to me is the AVCS (VVT) issue that this car is know to suffer from. I would expect the CEL to be cam related.

You were right. I just checked for the code today. P0013 Powertrain: Camshaft Position: Actuator Circuit (bank 1)

I monitor my AFRs and Fuel trims pretty frequently. All was normal, before, during, and after. AFRs dropping to 13s for a bit but nothing crazy.

Check the wiring and plugs on all camshaft position sensors and actuators, hopefully one is loose or damaged. P0013 is not one of the ususl codes for cam issues, hopefully your lucky and its just a wiring\plug issue.

Tsb relating to cam issues but you not throwing those codes, it does sound more like sensor, oil control valves issue. Maybe swap ocv to see if code changes to other bank.

It would be covered under warantee but turbo might be an issue even though it not related, unless wiring melted damaged

Im not familiar with anything related to camshaft, but I did some research to see which ones I could get to easily and I checked the wiring on 4 plugs that I saw next to the cams (dont know if that was al of them). I'm guessing those are the sensors? Anyways, I also began to push them in to make sure they were tightly connected, none of them moved or anything, so it didn't seem like they were loose.

However, to my surprise, made a pizza run, and the light cleared. I honestly don't know if that's good or not. I felt really good when it cleared but then I pondered for a bit.

P.S. Checked the freeze frame data and was on 35 ST fuel trim 46 mph,

Have a look at this one specifically if you can:

This based on a similiar code a few year past.

Yep. That's actually the first one I went to. Seems to be the famous one on the forums but wiring (to my eyes) looked fine and it was properly connected.

However, since it was on for a whole day and went off as soon as I started pressing the sensor in, maybe it was "microscopically" loose were I couldnt feel a difference because I don't think it was just coincidence that it went off soon after I did that.

UPDATE: ENGINE ABOUT TO DIE?

After, the P0013 code went away before yesterday.

Just after a 40% - 50% throttle pull. from 2000 3000 RPM. Wasn't WOT.

The car never actually shut off but it was showing signs (like TJ Hunt's engine around when he first got his SC), it was dropping to like 500 and 400 RPMs. This is where I decided to pull over and check for codes. The car never had trouble starting up and never shut off. I also smell moderate coolant smell.

I have THREE codes ALL relating to Powertrain

-P000B - Powertrain
-P0013- Camshaft Position - Actuator Circuit
-P0014- Camshaft Position- Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance

I also checked for leaks, there was some fluid dripping down pretty frequently (10 secs). I thought it was my tranny fluid, maybe thought a plug broke loose. It was water coming out of ( idk the name of it) a rubber open hose, to the right of the tranny.

I checked all wiring I could, and plugs everything looks normal. Looks like my situation is more complex than just wires/plugs.

Any advice/direction is needed plz. Im probably taking it to a shop tomorrow.

Im just glad I was able to 2nd gear home.

UPDATE - P0171 popped up

Going to try and switch the Cams from banks

ShadowReaper 02-20-2018 06:35 PM

UPDATE -

After switching both Exhaust Cam sensors "B" and Intake Cam sensors Bank 1 and bank 2, P0014, P0171 have cleared.

P0013, the most historic one, is still active. Driving it is getting worse. Shaking becomes more violent. RPM dips around 1st gear engagement. Tuner and myself did what we could.

So it's not visible wiring, sensors, or plugs.

Anybody reckon it to be wiring that you have to remove parts to get to. by that I mean non-visible, hard-to-get to wiring? Maybe Solenoids?

Whaetver the case may be, I'm giving up, taking it into shop tomorrow.
