Oil Temperature Sensor Location

Ok guys!! I hope this is the correct area for this, but I just gotta fill you in on this great find. I know there has been debate of where to locate this sensor and we all agree that having it in the oil pan is ultimately the best place for the most accurate reading. Then you have to tap your oil pan and have a bung welded on. We that is no longer the case. This has nothing to do with the ft86 but I found this little gem at Trail Tech. It’s geared for dirt bikes and atv’s, but this temperature sensor adapter allowed me to replace my oil plug and install the sensor. Same thread pattern as I cross referenced the M16x1.5. Below is the link to this product. And it super cheap!!!! 10 bucks plus shipping and your good to go.

Item Number: VA-16150

I would be afraid of it hanging down under the car. Better to come off a oil filter sandwich plate or the main oil galley under the AC compressor I would think.

Nothing wrong with mounting it there except that I'd rather keep my magnetic drain plug. I've had one there in other cars for many miles and it worked well.

Completely understandable. This doesn’t protrude beyond your skid pan, and I t stays tucked up in there. However, I’m sure there is always some possibility.

If it stays above the skid pan then yes it should be OK. But I would still feel better myself mounting it elsewhere.
