Replacing Valve Core
Anyone replace a valve core in the stock wheels? One of mine got messed up a while ago and now likes to leak.
Anyway, it seems like a really simple procedure so I am going to try my hand at it this weekend (never needed to bother with it before). Just making sure there isn't anything special about the twins tpms stems I need to know. Also, any advice or gotchas would be appreciated. |
It is just a schraeder valve. If you've taken the valve stem out of a bicycle before you've done it already.

If you are lucky it is just the valve core and a replacement can be had at any parts store or even Walmart. A removal tool is good to have anyway and it too can be had as above. If it is the stem that is bad then a whole new TPS valve is needed and requires removing the tire, replacing and reprograming.

If you have a friendly relationship with your tire shop; they probably would just give you one. (or do it for you for free)
My tire shop would. |

Stem is fine on the outside. Somehow the pin inside got bent. Hoping the bent pin is the whole of the problem. |

Ouch! That sucks! Sorry to hear that. I just replaced all of my lugs. It was pretty easy with a ball joint separator. |

Howd you manage the rears? That one was a PITA with the brake shoes on. Did you just remove them? |

Just to close this out in case it comes up in someone's search, I replaced the valve using the following procedure with no issues. I'm sure some steps can be skipped. I used one of the screwdriver type valve replacement tools (not the 4 in 1) and a generic schrader valve.
1. Jack up the corner in question. 2. Let out air from tire. 3. Use tool to unscrew valve from stem. 4. Screw new valve in. 5. Inflate tire 6. Lower car 7. Come back in an hour to check pressure. |
If you're quick you don't even have to jack it up or anything. Take the old one out, quickly shove the new one in. Top off with air.
