OFT Backfire Effects

A few months ago I purchased an Open Flash Tablet after a while i came across this "Backfire/Pop" tune and tried it out and was pretty fun hearing the exhaust pop and crackle and seeing people heads turn around lol. I wanted to know who has been on this tune for a long time? Such an more than a year, if you have ran into any issues or problems? I just want to know if im going to run into any negative effects. P.s im full catless so no worries about my cat going out or my muffler packing.

Thank you!

If you take a look at recent posts on this thread there has been some of those questions that have been answered: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61069

From the looks of it there seems to be a consensus about it not causing any damage. Some people have run the tune for a long time without noticing any problems arising. The only thing that gets brought up is the muffler packing takes a beating and may damage the muffler and make the exhaust louder but you seem to be aware of that risk.

I was just curious to hear about those who have been running it and hearing any updates since than. Thanks for the link

So apparently it is very easy to have it only pop on demand (when feathering the throttle when decelerating). Probably gets old fast but might try it someday to see for myself.

I first did this mod last Summer sometime. Not much to go on, but so far so good. If you have a low tolerance for noise or are embarrassed easily it's not the mod for you.

Others have the timing retarded a lot more than me and have a much louder set up (I know there's a couple 86's in my town who do because I hear it!) I have mine set up so that the first column of Table B has much less timing advance (IIRC 5 degrees advance), I am not running retarded timing- the standard is around 15 degrees of retard. That shit is loud with pops, shotgun shots, cherry bombs and automatic gun fire. Mine burbles and pops a lot, not many gun shots.

So is there a performance reason for this, or is it to just be a noisy jackwagon?

Just noise. And I know I will get hate mail and "but mine has been fine" replies but there is no way in hell that backfiring all the time is OK for an engine. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch.

i dont understand how the more timing retard would make a difference. once the fuel mixture exists the chamber it shouldnt matter when the ignition fires, just as long as its after the chamber is clear. :iono::iono::iono:

If it clog the catalytic, would clog the valves

So what you're saying is this will melt the valves? I don't know about that.

Please, SOMEONE tune for a backfire.
Then try a warranty claim for the blown up manifold and all the pieces inside the combustion chamber.

No melt, just heavy carbon build up on valves. That prevent the valve to close completly, at least in theory. Backfire was used on world rally cars to keep the turbocharger spoiling when driver release throttle pedal in turns, in straights the turbo is on the "sweet" spot and accelerate more quickly.

I get lots of pops and backfires on the normal OTS 91 octane tune. No special tweaks required.

Catless FP and Tanabe single exit FTW. (stock header)
