OFT or Crawford Billet Performance Blocks
Hey guys,
So I was originally going to save up for the OFT, but then read some of the forums on here about the Crawford BPB and how it basically helps compress the powerband and makes it more enjoyable as a DD. I am going to get an OFT eventually when I get my tax refund along with a nice set of headers, but I’m thinking that getting the BPB would be a worthy investment right now. What do you all think? Should I just save up and get the OFT with the UEL and not even get the BPB, or get the BPB now and eventually do the OFT stage 2 uel +BPB. I don’t plan on going FI for what it’s worth, just want a good NA build. Sorry if this is something I could’ve found searching more, I’m just trying to make sure my thought process is sound with this Thanks! |
OFT first - BPB's later. You'll really want to optimize for the BPB's to get the most and OFT will allow you to do that (along with benefits across the power band).

I don't think I would bother with the power blocks. A catless header and a tune will flatten out the torque dip.

From what ive noticed from driving someone with the BPB, is that is effectivly moves most of the power down to DD range. So you'll feel more oomph between 3-4k RPM. OFT with headers does roughly the same. However i would recommend getting the OFT and headers first. AFAIK you need to tune for the Power Blocks and you will need something to tune your car with. So get the OFT first cuz you'll actually be able to utilize it.

I've installed an OFT, header (catted EL) and the Crawford BPB, in that order.
I'd stick with what others are saying here, OFT first. It gives you the whole package of mid-range gains, top end gains, better pedal feel and room to grow in the future. But if you're more DD oriented, do swing back to get the BPB's. The mid-range gains are completely worth it, even with the rest. And IMO, they also makes the car easier to drive. The main downside of them is that, at least untuned, there really is quite the 'wall' at 7000rpm. |

I think the reason I’m so conflicted is that my car is bone stock, and the OFT by itself wont be as dramatic as the BPB (or obviously the OFT+headers). Hearing that I could reach peak power at like 6500 RPM as well as reducing the torque valley. Not trying to be difficult, just weighing the pros and cons I guess. |

Thanks a lot for the wisdom guys :D |

Shiv with OFT http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62471 Moto East (a VERY reputable tuner) with ecutek ,P&L headers & E85 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67520 DIY tuning with OFT to get most of the top end back http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71285 Take a look at the midrange surge. It's not about the torque dip really, although it can make the dip 'narrower'. It's really about the surge in power past 5000, at the expense of a couple hp past 7000 (where most of us spend very little time honestly). Good headers will help the torque dip, the ideal would be to do both and then have Shiv do a custom e-tune for you. Will make the car much more entertaining to drive. |
Imo the stage 1 OFT tune hardly changed anything for me. If I were you I'd get some headers to go along with the OFT. Headers and the OFT tune did way more for me than the OFT alone with just a catback

OFT owner chiming in. If I had it to do again I would definitely buy the OFT first as the stage 1 tune changed the way the car drives. Throttle response is on point and the torque dip while still there I would say has 80% been eliminated and you can use the OFT as a Gauge pack that can read your temps, afrs, and such and it can be used to read and clear gel codes. The only mods I have are a cat back and OFT.
Plus if you are gonna go FI in the future the bpb from what I read should probably be removed. Lastly you can always sell the OFT for good money if you move up to Ecutek. |
