Front sway bar end link installation?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if there is a specific way to install the front end links. I currently have RacerX adjustable front end links. It seems to be the culprit in making noises as every adjustment I do to them either makes the noise happen less or more frequently or go from passenger to driver and vice versa.

How I installed it:
Car jacked up with suspension unloaded, remove old end links (unusable anymore). Installed driver side end link and adjust it to the minimum setting and tighten. Then put the car onto ramp (with wheels on now) and install the passenger side end link. Adjust the passenger side end link until it feels easy to turn then hand tightened. Jack up the car, wheels off, and tighten the passenger end link. The bolts from the end link to the coilover and sway bar were also torqued down.

Is there a certain way to install the end link or does it need to be in a certain position? Just trying to eliminate the sound problem.

I installed mine by turning the wheel and just taking it off with the car on the ground. I believe you want pre load on the end links before tightening

I'll give that a try and see what happens.

BUMP still making noise after adjustment and alignment

What kind of noise?

Bach415 12-29-2017 04:33 AM

@cjd it's like a popping/tapping/creaking noise. Here's a video of it. You can start hearing it after I put the car in neutral and coast it (3rd shift) https://youtu.be/thd7UrwbbcE

Why did you adjust the Endlinks to minimum height to begin with?

Just wanted to be safe on avoiding the LCA. On my old HKS end links, even though they were shortened from factory, they got pretty close to hitting the LCA (always had this weird clunking sound but didn't see any marks on LCA but the rubber ended up ripping bottom side only and seizing up the joint). Same with Whiteline (had to return them as they were hitting my fender wall). I had slowly increase the end link length on both sides for the RacerX until the noise was to a minimum. Still bothered me that I can hear it.

Anyways, problem is solved now. Lowered the car more in the front and set the end links close to minimum settings and the noise is gone (possible that I finally just got the right settings by luck).

Yeah it’s a shame that when you search “Endlink noise”, all the posts tell you to get shorter end links. I once had whiteline endlinks that were set at minimum height and I got a really nasty binding noise. I then switched to Perrin endlinks and they would rub so hard on the inner fender that the bushings got squeezed out like a press would do.

Bottom line I’m back to stock endlinks and there is no noise lol. But I’m glad your problem was resolved as well.

@norcalpb *couldnt let me quote you lol. But yeah, that is true. That's why I kept on switching different end links. Too many variables when it comes to end link sounds.

Today I realized that my traction control light kept coming on when taking turns. I come to find out my passenger side swar bar link is flat out missing and I don’t know how it happened. Do you have any recommendation on which ones to get? And if I should jack up the car or leave it grounded?

Any idea what the shortest available adjustable endlink is? I have marks where my whiteline endlinks have been kitting my SPL LCAs even set at the minimum length.

Godspeed has a front end link, shortest it goes to, per website is 200 mm
