Height Adjustment

I Installed Tein Flex A's a few weeks ago and have been messing with ride height. I'm a little confused on adjusting the rear coilovers. It seems that the Shock Body/Cartridge is lowered to the maximum and is bottomed out on the Mount. At the moment it leaves me with about a 2 finger gap. I want it to be a little lower, around 1-1/2 Finger gap. My question is, do I just leave the shock body/cartridge bottomed out and just adjust the preload?

FYI, These are my first coilovers so I have very little experience/knowledge with them.

Can you take a picture of the rear shock body

You can go with rear lower control arms that will lower the car more if the coil is truly maxed out.

The Shock Body is the only thing maxed out, however, there is still 1.4in of threading in between the Height Adjustment Locknut and the 2 Preload Locknuts.

A picture would be helpful...

Yes you will have to "reduce preload" to lower the car to your desired height, go ahead and do it, it's not unusual.

I think Tein must have changed something in their manufacturing. I cannot get my Flex Z rear end near the advertised 3” drop. It’s not even flush. I even minimized preload as much as possible. I don’t think that the threads should bottom out in the cup so soon like that. Any other suggestions anyone?

I wish I knew I’d need stance LCA’s before I went and got SPC ones and an alignment.

are the springs loose under full droop? if not go further on the spring perch

They’re not loose. I just barely made them snug. I still have over a 1 finger gap in the rear with no issues up front.

Me too

I'm having the same issue with my Tein Flex A's. Fronts will drop until basically rubbing while rears leave a big gap. I assumed I did something improperly during installation until I tested the opposite side rear and it did the same. I guess lowered control arms are the only option? Pretty frustrating since I went pricey and got velox/verus LCA's. Here's a pic of it maxed out if anyone sees anything I'm missing.

Lower the spring perches, you're not "maxed out"

Daenon 01-10-2018 01:00 AM

I'm new to this stuff so I appreciate the help.

The body won't move into the lower housing any more than this. It gets stuck. So when I try to lower the upper perches the body gets jammed and if enough force is given, it will start loosening the preload instead.

This seems more likely what might be wrong... I'm having a hard time imagining the change this would make though. I would set the preload on the perches before re-tightening into control arm, right?

It was never designed to go super low.
It was designed to have decent amount of travel both in bump and droop, while having a modest amount of lowering adjustment.
Removing preload and lowering the spring perch would get you lower, but you would sacrifice some bump travel.
