Are the 2017's quieter than the older ones?

I've seen some information on this forum that apparently Subaru revised the sound deadening inside the car? I searched through the long document and all i found was they revamped the intake and the differential mounts to reduce nvh.

Is that all that was done? I assume it would be a bit louder with the shorter gearing the manuals if not practically the same as before...

I can't really tell a difference...

Although they increased the size by a fair bit for the diff changes it probably just breaks even with the increase in the noise from the diff changes (as noted) so noise level stayed the same even with the changes.

Didn't they also change tires, or was that earlier? That makes quite a bit of difference as well.

Same tires.

Can't really compare since I don't have lots of seat time in 13-16 but my 17 is definitely not bad, and certainly not as bad as some complaints make the sound out to be.

You'll have less noise from the road, but the exhaust in the '17 MT is louder (higher flow intake & exhaust manifold).

I drove a '13 for a couple of years and now have a '17. There is less road noise. My wife thinks so, too. Mind you, there's still plenty of road noise / this ain't no German car. :)

I got the performance package and the ride quality of the '17 is a huge improvement over the '13.

:bow::bow::bow:

Op, just changed the tire to something like pilot super sport, the ride will get really comfy and quiet.

Oh ya and there is this subframe rubber ring shape bushing that subaru japan sells .....that was in the US dealer manual but is never in our car.

get one from japanpart, that thing makes ride more quiet and i think they probably just slap those on the new car, just additional isolation between the subframe and chassis.

Looks like i misread this document. If I am seeing correctly the entire world gets change 2, while change 1 is limited to Japan!

Yep
The whole thing is a bit confusing as to who got what. Have to really look at the fine print since the variations can be considerable.
I didn't check the interior section but believe there was more soundproofing added in there as well.

my 2017 brz manual is not noisy at all at 80mph. Everyone talks at normal volume and reports a relaxing trip.

At 80mph I have a very very slight whistle sound, maybe from the window or something. But that's about it.

Of course before I had this car I was taking the train, lightrail, or bus everywhere which were super rickety and noisy everywhere so :iono:

yes, I thought about this too. And many cars are not comfortable to drive at 80mph on a trip. This has smooth acceleration and can hold 80-82mph on up and down hills as you cruise. Really nice and it very stable and smooth. I can't imagine what it is like when I eventually get the Tcoat recomended AS 3+ tires next year.
