Sapphireho, I suggest you fly up and rent a car, to drive around ...... so, it won't have California plates. Them folk don't take kindly to people from California ..... :eyebulge:

HOA ......???? ........

Not to worry, they don't even know what that means ...... :D

Google it, all kinds of horror stories, most are tolerable, a minority are hell and all it takes is one neighbor with a stick up their ass (and not in the good way) to make life miserable.

My favorite description came from an old web series.

"Hey, we should start a neighborhood association. It's just like a government, but run by housewives and old people. So it's a lot more efficient at controlling your lives!"

A lot of the newer homes we see on line have HOA. No way am I buying a home in a HOA.

Yes, flying in and renting a car. Boise is in the finals as to where we go in retirement. California is not a retirement friendly state.

Now, what kind of car to rent?

Oh well, maybe someone from Boise will see this. I was hoping someone could tell me where the good dive bars are too. Love a good dive bar.

I think I'm just going to go with the cheap Corolla rental. I'm going to be driving a lot, so I don't want the v8 Mustang or truck.

It'll be cold and icy in the winter.
Take a side trip over to Ontario and Baker City in Oregon. No sales tax over there.
Not sure what they do for retired income tax though.
Boise is an hour or so down the highway from there if there's not enough traffic for your comfort.

Yeah. Bro-Dozers in every driveway that don't go off road.

Well I have a 4door 4x4 Dodge Ram, a boat, camouflage (hunted all my life) and an attitude. I thought I would fit right in?

Most people don't want to talk to me because I'm an asshole, usually geography has little to do with it.

I'm sure I could hold my own in Idaho. Haven't been in a good fight in a while.

If you go to the link humfrz listed you can click search members -> advanced search and search by location. I see 22 members who list themselves as in boise.

That person was active this week and is listed as living in Boise. I don't know how to tag someone in a thread but you could probably PM them.
