Variable timing live monitor

I am working on a better way of displaying what is going on inside our engine in a Dashcommand skin. It is still early days but wanted to share work so far on a portion of the skin that will display variable timing overlap in real time. Much more to come!

I also create custom skins for customers. Message me on Facebook or here for more info.

This might help with the cam angles.

The exhaust cam closes before TDC at 0 retard and the same for the intake at 0 advance.

Thanks that should help work out if I have this right! I am measuring cam change angle on odb2 and drawing based on that. I saw a diagram that showed 3 degrees before TDC at closure point, so assumed anything negative was right of TDC.

Do you think I am representing retard wrong?

Looks right based on this, apart from me measuring 0 as -3! I took the -3 from a different Toyota engine by mistake (google error) will fix it now

I think I have sorted it. Had the cam angle durations wrong for both sides. Thanks so much for spotting the error!

The problem is that the diagram you posted shows more adjustment range than the cams actually have in the ROM. So I'm not sure if there's a hard or fast value or just to allow tollerances. The values that I got for the spreadsheet are a good indication. I just add cam overlap into my logs now, but even then it's not 100% helpful as its not easy to determine the cam lift.

Yeah I wondered if it was max tolerance.

Once question I have, should I show intake open at TDC or at -3.5 to the right as per this

In that sheet 0 is TDC, negative is BTDC and positive is ATDC.

And so the base cam with no VVT change would be drawn as opening 3.5 degrees left of TDC?

I guess my question is; when the table shows 0 advance for intake, what angle is the cam at? -3.5?

When the table shows 0 for exhaust what angle is the cam at

From that I can make this diagram accurate.

At 0 the intake cam opens the valve at 3.5 degrees to the left of TDC and the exhaust valve closes at 7 degrees left of TDC.

Perfect and thanks for all the help will fix this now.

Ok, think this now matches your sheet at 0 for both intake and exhaust

One more question, if the intake cam change is given as -10 would the intake be rotating clockwise 10 degrees or anti-clockwise 10 degrees from its 0 point ?
