Installing 2016 Motor in 2013 Car

Is there anything ECU wise that I need to do, if I install a 2016 engine in a 2013 car? Is there anything outside of that?

Thanks for the help.

What about 2017 engine? Just curious if easy swap or not worth the hassle.

BTW- When you say no.. you mean there won't be issues. Or no dont do it.

2016 should work, just change the motor leave the engine ecu alone

Re putting a 2017 motor in again should work (no guarantee) dont change the ECU that will 100% not work with the 2017 ecu programming in the older cars. Use the current cars ecu or at least the current cars ecu calibration id rom in ecu.

There are changes to various sensors on the MY17 so it might not be p'n'p. Whether you can reuse older sensors is unknown at this point I guess. As for a MY15/16 I'm sure I've read there are sensor changes again that throw a CEL but reusing the ones from the original engine solves the issue.

Do you remember which sensors?

I'm afraid not. Cam sensors seem to come to mind but I'm not certain. I did try and have a search when I posted, it's from a post on here so maybe you'll have better luck.

Yup been trying to find it. But the cam sensors are not hard to swap at least.

I know we can run the 2013 ecu firmware in any car from 2012-2016, and the ecu hardware is same from what ive seen and done a few ecu swaps now from cars in different countries.

This would seem to suggest that the input and output signals to the ecu are same.

however i do seem to remember their might be some changes to the physical plug/loom might have been cam sensors or ignition coil packs but just guessing.

I have not done motor swaps just ECU swaps from various cars.

I'm going to make sure to document the changes so we all know.

It's alive! 2016 motor is in and it's currently running. Utilizing the MY16 wiring harness nothing was swapped from the old engine sensor wise.

Car fired right up and no lights. I get the car back tomorrow (tonight?) night.

So freaking excited.

Get some sleep man, you have a long drive coming up! Glad it worked out. Just remember that clutch is going to be breaking in for a bit.
