Clutch pedal - "squishy/squeeky" sound?
 

Noticed that this started to happen this past weekend, anybody else have this? Only have about 35,000 km on it but a lot of track time. My other car (Audi S4) has the same issue and ended up trying to spray some lithium grease where the plunger which helps but only comes back later, have not done this yet on the BRZ. I known hot weather is a factor with the S4, though the BRZ was parked underground when it started to do this.

Unless it's something really loud that really gets on nerves a lot .. i'd probably wouldn't care. Unlike audi S4, which is more upmarket with more luxurious interior & better noise insulation .. there are many rattles/noises in my twin that i ignore "because [cheap] racecar" :)

Does it happen when the pedal is pushed almost to the floor? Mine has been doing that, but it sounds like the squeak is coming from inside the bell housing. Luckily I can't hear it when the car is actually running.

Yeah just wanted to check to see if there was some sort of sign of impending doom for the master cylinder but was thinking probably not. There's so much road/engine noise in the BRZ I didn't notice it until I was a stop and had the radio turned off.

The squishy sound happens when the clutch pedal is being depressed, hence guessing it was the same thing I'm having with the S4. Which by the way, I rather drive the BRZ than the S4.... BRZ is a lot more fun, S4 I keep complaining about how heavy it feels, so the S4 pretty well sits in the garage all summer long.

Could be the clutch pedal assembly. I had a clicking sound when fully depressing the clutch pedal. If you still have the 3 year warranty they'll replace it with no hassle. Do you feel any "vibrations" when fully depressing the clutch pedal?

Oh, well, if it is something like master clutch cylinder and so on i WOULD care :).
But from OP & thread name i got impression that it's just pedal assembly, that's noisy. If tolerable, not too annoying, just let it be :). More redlining, louder music should do. :D
With pedal i got noise i couldn't tolerate, when i tried pedal dead travel adjustment mod, stock clutch bum stop was quickly cut through, resulting in loud metallic clunk i couldn't live with. But slight squeek at top of depressed travel .. i have it too, and don't even notice due being used to. I'm more minding clutch steady engagement/rpms/grip in curves for gearswitch/handling/braking points, then interior noises. And if anything, things like rear seat latches rattle from noises are more annoying then that of clutch pedal's :)

Not that I'm aware of, but guessing if I do that could be the throwout bearing on it's way out.

Well, OK ...... hint: I suggest you use Google to search ..... :thumbsup:

First off, I would suggest you check the master cylinder to make sure it's full of fluid.

Then, you may wish to follow this mini DIY from @Ultramaroon :

Quick & dirty:
1. Detach the slave cylinder. Leave the hydraulics alone.
2. Remove the dust boot from the fork.
3. Reach down behind the fork with a finger and feel for the pivot. It's going to be tight because of the retaining clip.
4. Squeeze a decent glob of Lucas Red & Tacky #2 in there with your finger.
5. Jiggle the fork to distribute the grease as much as possible. It'll work in more on its own.
6. Put a dab of grease in the top pivot where the slave pin goes.
7. Reassemble.

That outta get ya started.

If all that don't shut it up, you could bleed the clutch hydraulic system.

It depends how bad the squeak is. I actually noticed the same thing on my frs around the same mileage, but it was a minor thing so I ignored it. I'm at 67k now and I barely notice at all anymore. I just flushed my clutch fluid and I swear it's gone now maybe I'm used to it but if it doesn't affect the clutch function at all and just a slight squeak it may go away on its own with time like it did with me.

Hmfrs said it, but I was going to suggest bleeding, then add a little fluid. Prime the clutch, bleed and then check fluid level.

Mine did that for a while then goes away after i change the way i hold/let go of my clutch * I forget what i did exactly.


I know.... our car is weird....... i have a new noise every 10k mile and they are switching around in the car. Newest one is near the rear glass.....
