window squeaking noise

Got myself a 13 BRZ about 2 weeks ago. And every time I wash my car or when it rains, both driver/passenger's window starts to make squeaking sound every time I roll up and down. I've searched it and found out this is a pretty common issue that happens to a lot of people. I tried to find it's PERMENANT solution but failed. Please help me with this because it is very annoying :(

P.S: Will it eventually cause or damage on my windows if I just leave it as it is? I also heard using silicone grease spray would work but I have a feeling it's just a temporary solution where it occurs again if I don't do that regularly.

Thank you very much in advance all.

It seems to have caused damage on my driver's window. My driver's window is the only one that squeaks for whatever reason, but it is LOUD, and it happens every time it's even so much as mildly humid outside, let alone when it rains.

Now my driver's side window has visible scoring in the glass from the tracks. They're deep enough that you can feel them with your fingernail.

I had the seals replaced under warranty and the window continues to squeal. For what it's worth, the dealership said Subaru is aware. :iono:

Yep, sorta like the old wagon wheels ...... if you didn't grease them every now and then, they would start to squeak .....;)

I suggest you clean the glass real good (well) and treat the weather stripping (especially in the groove) with silicone.

Works for my windows......;)

There are two separate TSBs for windows. The one that just replaces the seals does not help the squeal. The one that replaces the glass lifters (attached) did eliminate the squeal for me. Some dealers may not do the work though since it is actually for windows freezing not for squealing.

Several thousand window openings after the new lifters were installed and not a mark on my tint much less the glass.

Even if out of warranty it may be worth while having it done.

Subaru has been aware of this for decades. My 2000 Impreza had scratches on the windows from raising and lowering them, and it was a commonly acknowledged issue back then, too. That the issue hasn't been remedied by now means they know; they just don't care. It would interfere with their frameless windows.

When my car was new the Windows squeaked all the time. Don't worry this does go away on its own. Mine stopped around 30k-40k can't say for sure but they never squeak now I'm at 65k and my window seals are all still working great. You can try adding a little wax on the windows inside and out which can help with the squeaking in the mean time.

Umm...no.

Mine has been doing it since the day I got the car, with 983km on it. I am now at almost 110,000km, and almost 3 years later, and if anything it's actually worse now then it was before.

Just don't want people getting the wrong idea, because this certainly does not "go away on its own". Maybe you just got lucky!

I do potentially want to go with tints soon, and I would definitely want this done before going that route...not going to spend money on tints just for the lifters to ruin them.

But that of course will mean new lifters, new glass, labour...

:mad0259:

I might just have to live with it.

Well for me they completely stopped sqweaking. I do apply spray wax on the outside of the window sometimes which may have helped. Also could be temp related. Do you notice a difference in squeaking when it's hotter vs colder.

Yeah; it doesn't really squeak too much when it's cold, because the window just freezes instead. LOL!

Definitely happens more in the spring and summer, and being in Toronto, our winters are awful.

It squeaks when it's not even wet outside; if it's just very humid, it will still squeak like a stuck pig. It's so loud sometimes that people standing OUTSIDE the car will look over. It's embarrassing.

DandoX 06-22-2017 08:22 PM

Now that I think of it it stopped squeaking around the time I started covering and garaging the car when parked. So maybe it isnt fixed for me and just lying I wait. I do suggest some wax on the outside or even rain X, could lube the window just enough to not squeak. Hope you find something that works, good luck.
