Lithium Ion Battery Replacement

Was wondering if anyone has tried replacing the traditional chemical car battery with a lighter Lithium ion Battery, and if it's recommended at all?

I have the Shorai... When cared for properly it is a solid alternative... It is Lithium-Iron though.

Here is the link http://shoraipower.com/lfx36l3-bs12-p130

Also, I believe others have used the Braile brand battery... Not sure what the model number is though.

I purchased my Shorai with a very nice mounting kit from Kinetic Custom Machine... The whole assembly weighed like 6.5 lbs. Not sure if KCMachine are still in business though.

Looks good, I'll check it out.

I'm looking more towards reducing weight and getting rid of that yucky corrosion around the terminals.

I've run the Odyssey PC680 and PC925 batteries with great success. They are AGM's though.

Water, baking soda, 2 minutes of elbow grease.

But that sweet weight reduction!

I think a LiFePo4-battery is what you want. Safer and more stable at low and high temps then lithium ion.

This for instance:

Way more usable capacity then stock, half the weight.

.......and then they got pretty colored stuff you can spray on the terminals to retard corrosion.

I'll be damn if I'd install a lithium ion battery in my car .... I done saw on TV what even the little ones can do to cell phones ....:eyebulge:

:D

Wow that is pretty light. Think we found a winner. Thanks very much.

The Shorai batteries are Lithium-Iron which according to what I've read about the differences between LiFePo4 and LiCoO2 (Lithium-Ion) when it comes to stability and safety are as follows:

--The lithium-iron (LiFePo4) battery has a slight edge over the Li-ion (LiCoO2) battery for safety. This is important because a battery should not get overheated or catch fire in case of overcharging.

The lithium-iron battery has superior chemical and thermal stability. A Lithium-iron battery remains cool at room temperature while the Li-ion may suffer thermal runaway and heats up faster under similar charging conditions.--

It probably wouldn't change your mind about using Lithium batteries but I wanted to make the difference clear for others that are considering.

I dunno how many amps our alternators put out to the battery but this https://www.ev-power.eu/LiFeYPO4-bat...LP12V40AH.html maxes at 40 amp. You should check on this to be sure. Those batteries will burn like a plasma cutter not explode

Thanks for the information.

I was "jest ah messen wich" the concept ...... ;)

I'm a little out of touch, since most of my machines used a magneto .......:D
