Headers and inspection in ny

Does anyone have a decatted header and passed inspection in ny. I really want to get ace headers in the future but swapping them in and out for every inspection seems crazy.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0be67d5753.jpg

Got a catless header, front pipe with a high flow cat, I passed inspection. I think it's fine as long as you have at least 1 cat.

With a header you'll need a tune anyways. Most ECM tuners can disable the P0420 code when you go catless.

So it will still pass inspection without the cat

it should because there is no sniff test just an emissions ready status. But I would wait for someone who is catless to chime in. I like to have at least one cat, which is usually a high flow one. 5HP not worth the smell.

I would probably keep the second cat anyway I just know that the first cat is the one that determines the results from the obd2 test

OP don't worry you will pass if you get a tune to remove the CEL. More than likely you will get a tune with the ACE because it is worthless if you don't.

I thought with a proper tune, going catless doesnt have the terrible smell?

Would you really be surprised if all those guys had no tune or some off the shelf tune?

I was doing some research a while ago, mostly on other forums, and everything I read pointed to minimal if any smells with a tune.

Kinda makes sense since cats are meant to convert unburnt hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides. The only one of those three with a smell is unburnt hydrocarbons, so if your car is tuned so it doesnt run too rich or too lean, that should help?

No personal or expert experience on this stuff, just repeating what I've found online. Would be nice if someone without cats and with a tune gave their experience.

There still is at least 10% unburnt fuel so it would probably be worse without a tune but you would still smell it. Not sure on how much of a difference that would be though

Smell or no smell, you lose 5HP at best with a high flow cat. Unless its a racer, as a DD I would have one cat on there.
