Squeaky Breaks

Hi guys, so i've noticed that my GT86 are having a issue with squealing brakes. Can anyone recommend a good setup of breaking pads for regular street driving?

I live in south part of Sweden where it is around 18-22 celcius, 64-72 fahrenheit. So it shouldn't be a issue with it being to cold.

Are your stock pads squeaking? Are you sure they are stock pads?

So, wally, I see that your car is new to you ....... but is it new.

If it's new, I'd suggest you take it back to the dealer ...... because, the brakes shouldn't be squealing.

If it's not a new car ....... how many miles on the car .. ??

If it has several thousands of miles on it ...... it could be the pads are worn down to the metal wear indicators (making a metallic squealing sound when applied).

Also, a brake inspection may be in order, there could be a lose caliper or a rock stuck between the pad and rotor.

If the pads are wore out ....... for normal driving, I would suggest they be replaced with the OEM pads.

Hi Humfrz, the car got 4,500 on the meter so its not brand new and have apperently been driven once in the winter. Do you recommend any pads?

Ultramaroon 05-13-2017 03:23 PM

Just get a set of stock pads.

What I would recommend is that you have the brakes inspected at any brake shop ..... just to make sure there isn't something wrong with the brake system.

If the calipers and rotors are in good shape ...... maybe the pads are just glazed over.

If so, I would recommend they be replaced with the OEM (Original Equipment Manufactured) brake pads.

Back-in-the-day ....... we would just take the brake shoes off, blow out the brake dust - which was asbestos - not using a respirator -, sand off the glazed part from the shoes and reinstall them.

(dang, it's a wonder any of us can still breath)

Before replacing the pads you should hit them with some brake cleaner and re-grease the rear of the pads and shims.

While doing this, also check the thickness of the pads and if the rotor has any grooves or cracks.

I'm at 40k miles on stock rotors and pads and I brake pretty hard since I live in an area with pretty bad drivers.

I'm at roughly 70% brake pad material left but it's squeaking every so often, so I'm pretty sure it's the hardness of the pad (Semi-metallic?)

Take the wheels off and squirt the brakes down with a hose, could be dirt and brake dust all in the works.
