TOP speed for each gear?

I found this on other website:
"Road & Track, July 2012 issue, pg. 89.

At 7400 rpm the speeds in each gear are respectively:

1: 35 mph (too much commotion in town)

2: 58 mph

3: 83 mph (you could be in trouble)

4: 105 (you're probably going to jail)

5: 127 (do you have a lawyer?)

6: 135 (estimated at 6000 rpm, so I assume it's drag limited)

RPM at 60 mph in top gear: 2700

Hope this helps."

I was doing a pull on the freeway, and I didn't notice that I went over the redline on 2nd gear and it is showing 61mph before I shift to 3rd.
Does any one experience this?

Are you still on stock wheels?

There is also a variance in speedometer readings from car to car

My car's too new to drive that hard, and I'm too chill to go to jail.

I didn't know you can go to jail just because of accelerating into the highway doing 60+ @@

Here you go. Based on the OEM tire diameter. 4th on the auto and 5th on the manual have the same ratios, so they're the same line.

Being on bigger wheels wouldnt change his speedometer reading anyway. Unless you get speedo adjusted, which almost no one ever bothers to do.

But yea that second part is probably what it is.

Just a guess, but since you were over redline (7400 RPM/58 MPH) you were reaching 61 right before fuel cutoff.

Depends on where you are. There are several States where you would indeed go to jail for doing 105 depending on what the speed limit is when you are doing it. Here you could just lose your car and drivers license for a while if you are doing 30 mph over the limit.

My bad, I got myself a little twisted up. A larger wheel would result in a faster true speed than what is registered on the speedometer. For some reason I was thinking it would result in a different speedo reading when traveling same speed, which I still guess is true, but wouldn't matter when keeping speedo reading constant.

I've tripped over that mental brick a couple times.

Does anyone actually go to jail for 105? I could see if you were on a city road but on the freeway people frequently drive close to that speed in Michigan. And if 83 is trouble I'm in trouble every time I drive :iono:

Not that I condone dangerous driving, 85 is generally the max I allow myself to go.

Yes I felt fuel cut at 61 right before I shift into 3rd gear. Thats when I actually realized I go too far and shift immediately.

Yea but I wasn't doing crazy speed, I just did a pull on the freeway entrance, I stopped around 70 right after i did a pull on 2nd with speed limit 61.

Thats why I asked does any one experience 2nd gear with 61mph, which i did. cus the max is 58mph for 2nd gear.
