Clutch Spring Removal

Hey guys,

I've been told by a few guys I work with that removing the clutch spring is highly recommended to help with pedal feel. I've been searching around the forum and I see that a good amount of FRS/86/BRZ owners are satisfied with this modification. My only question is, will there be premature wear on the clutch since removing the spring gives way to a tiny bit of play in the pedal? Looking to do this this weekend if I'm made a believer. Thanks!

I didn't notice much play play in the pedal after removing the spring. You will need to adjust the clutch sensor anyway and that will eliminate some of the play.

I did this mod 2 weeks ago. At first it was cool but now I absolutely hate it. The wobbly pedal bothers me soo much. I ordered the MTEC clutch spring in the hopes it may resolve the slop and still give a better feel. But we'll see.

Just my opinion and preference though.

I did it last year. I never adjusted the pedal or sensor and I still don't feel and looseness or play. Totally happy with the mod.

Did this as soon as I got my car home. Didn't notice any play, and I love the stiffer feel.

I wanted to throw an update out there on this... for those of you hesitating to do this. Don't. Hands down the best thing you can do for clutch response. The "mush" at the top of the peddle does not bother me one bit. It's heavier.. You CAN FEEL THE GRAB POINT. It makes everything noticeably better. I cannot express enough how happy I am with this mod. It literally took me ten minutes to get use to. All of my shifts are seem-less and smooth. Downshifts are more fluid. No more dead pedal. For those of you suffering from this and second guessing your ability to drive this beauty.. It's the return spring causing it. Take that sh*t out.

That being said, I did order the MTEC spring prior to this just in case I decide to put a spring back on. But with how amazing it felt driving my BRZ yesterday evening I will most likely keep it the way it is. The "mush" does not bother me. Honestly, how the pedal feels now is how I think it should feel coming off the line. YOU WILL NOT REGRET DOING THIS! *paranoia gone... for now...*

I loved this car before, but now it's tenfold. Don't let that return spring hold you back!
