What is that noise

My 2-month-old 86 has been making some noise consistently from the engine bay area. I suspect it was a clutch problem but both the dealership technician and foreman couldn't seem to locate the problem. Hopefully can get some ideas here before I drop my car in next time.

Here is the syndrome:
1.)The car only makes the noise when the car is fully warmed up, no noise when cold start.

2.)The noise is like one metal piece tapping on another metal piece.

3.)It occurs when casually accelerate from a full-stop at 1st gear. The moment when I release the clutch and accelerate.

4.)When rolling in 2nd gear and accelerate after(Like rolling into a corner and accelerate after the conrer, at around 18mph)

5.)Sometimes I can feel the collision from the shifter when shifting into 1st gear.

Any help will be much appreciate, really try to keep my baby babied.

Our cars have noisy transmissions and engines from the start. Between my clutch and the DI system youd think its coming apart compared to other vehicles. The best thing is to find a friend with a frs/brz/86 with some miles already on it and see whay your hearing is normal.

At what kind or RPM is this happening? My experience is that our engines don't like to be lugged at low RPMs and below 2k can make some weird rattles.

Yeah it only happened at low rpm. So maybe it's normal for our car? Should I try to flush the transmission fluid?

Mine did something like that. Ended with TOB and fork out of spec, replaced clutch disk and all sounds went off

I think that would be a waste of time and money.

I'd suggest you bang/look around underneath your car after it is warmed up, to see if you can find something (like a heat shield) that is lose.

Like mentioned, don't lug the engine ...... it ain't your grandpa's old flathead Ford ..... ;)

+1 to @Turdinator. Just don't lug it. Perfectly normal.

High compression 4-banger + relatively light (for OEM) flywheel = gearbox rattle.

MyGT86Yas 01-16-2017 11:24 PM

I don't think it was my driving. The shop foreman and I went for a drive and he didn't say a thing about my driving, and he confirmed there was a weird noise from the engine area.

Get a decent recording and post it up.

Alltezza 01-17-2017 01:03 AM

Is it clutch chatter? Do you have an aftermarket clutch?

Edit: Completely misread the OP post....I thought it said 2 month old E85.....

MyGT86Yas 01-17-2017 01:06 AM

No, my car is stock except catback and springs.....I will try to record a video tomorrow.

if I had to take a wild guess without hearing anything I would say throw out bearing. For some reason these cars do absolutely wonky things that would be out of the normal with any other platform. But then again.....
