Moving up from 225's to 245's

Car currently has -1.5 degree camber up front. I have SPC camber bolts down low and I'm thinking about switching to 245/40 of the same tire. Looking at the photos, do you guys think I'll have enough clearance for the said set of tires? I don't have any set measurements but from the photos, it looks like the clearance is about the same thickness as a coil of the spring...maybe .45 to .5 inch. Wheel offset is +35. Lowered on RCE yellows. Thoughts? Thanks! |
Can't view your photos (at work). What is your wheel offset? That will play a big part in determining clearance. For reference, I am on 17x9 35 offset----245/40 tires lowered roughly 1.25 inches on stock struts with -2.1 camber up front and I have no clearance issues whatsoever. Unless you have a really high offset I would say you'll be okay.

Wheel offset is +35.
I am on stock struts. |
It will be close. I have seen some that are fine, and some that are not. It kind of depends on the tire. I am looking at facing the same issue when my stockers need replacing.

I wouldn't think you'd have any issues. I have 245/40 PSS on 17x9 wheel with +35 offset. Lowered with the springs (although that doesn't matter here) and am also using camber bolts (lower) for -1.x degrees (not quite -1.5, but i forget). But, realistically, you can assume the tire to be about 1cm wider on each side. That's like 1/3 of an inch, so still within your estimated gap, but maybe close.

Thanks for the input.
If anything, I suppose I can put a 3mm spacer on, then roll out to dial down the camber if I need more clearance. |
You'll have no problem fitting them, I had RCE springs with 17x8 35offset wheels and 245/40/17 Dunlop ZIIs running -1.5 camber up front. No issues at autox or track.

The MPSS in 245/40R17 runs narrow. While this may allow for more clearance, its only .3" wider than the 225/45R17. Fitment shouldnt be an issue but is the cost increase really worth the minimal size increase :iono:

youre only going to have a few mm clearance but you will be ok, full lock and everything. i ran that same setup with no issues.

Yes I have some pics in a thread I have a while ago, check my threads. Its a nice flush look with meaty tires. When it comes to difference in feel, it's not much different from stock just has more grip all around ( currently have a wider set up 255/40/17 on 17x9 wheels and love it ). Personally I don't understand why people are scared of bigger tires, it doesn't change the nice nimble feeling the car has stock. @v1beeee
