Suspension Issues

- Fortune Auto 500 Coilovers using 8k Swift springs on radial bearings in the front. 20 clicks.
- Fortune Auto 500 Coilovers using 6k Swift springs in the rear. 17 clicks.
- Whiteline 20mm adjustable front sway bar.
- Whiteline 18mm adjustable rear sway bar.
- Enkei RPF1 18x9.5 wheels.
- Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2 245/35/18 tires.

The suspension was fairly dialed in on stock wheels. It still needed some work. I thought about getting stiffer springs. A shop installed RPF1 wheels + 245 tires recently. My suspension is now totally out of whack. ( T _ T ) All Aspects Motorsports will work on it soon. I was hoping to run a NASA HPDE1 this month. Any suggestions for further enhancements? :/ I will continue diving through the forums.

What exactly does "out of whack" mean?

8RZ 10-06-2016 03:55 PM

I assume the wheels were balanced with the install? Maybe it needs an alignment.

"totally out of whack" is not a useful description of the problem. (If you want suggestions for how to get the susspension "in whack")

Abbreviation for Wheels Have Actually Coincided with a Kerb.

Yes, it does. It pulls left, steering feels loose, knocking/clunking/squeaking noises, bounce, tires rubbing at full lock... I will continue to add and refine details as I recall them. Too bad none of you are local. :/

What size offset are the wheels? Sounds like the ET is too low and you're having rubbing issues.

x808drifter 10-06-2016 04:39 PM

First things first.
Did you properly preload the coilovers?

Did you corner balance yet?

Toyarzee 10-06-2016 04:49 PM

Corner balance a bit excessive... At minimum a traditional alignment is likely necessary. Also, how low are you?

I'm betting alignment was possibly shit beforehand and it was accentuated with the increase in contact patch.

When were coilovers installed, by whom, and was it aligned afterward?

Don't worry this sounds minor and you can run your race if you get this squared away soon

+38

I highly doubt this is causing issues. :/

All Aspects Motorsports adjusted everything on stock wheels. I would assume they did preload them. I chose not to corner balance my car. They are capable of doing so if wanted.

My car height is shown in this picture:

I started installing components myself. All Aspects Motorsports finished it about a month later. lol Long work hours, bad weather, lack of space and inexperience made what should have been a quick install into total frustration. :mad0260:

An alignment was never done by Professional Rim Repair on the receipt. I should have looked sooner. 'facepalm' I prefer All Aspects Motorsports or RaceWerks do an alignment instead. I tend to hyperbole minor issues. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am thinking about additional suspension upgrades before touching the gearbox or engine. Aaron from All Aspects Motorsports has basically told me there is no need for additional upgrades except maybe FI until I have plenty of hours under my belt.

Suggestion for good brake pads and brake fluid and track spec alignment.

go_a_way1 10-06-2016 07:14 PM

I find your spring rates odd? I have 7k front and 8k rear if I remember right. You want more spring in the rear IMO to help balance the car as you have to account for motion ratios.

Motul RBF600 brake fluid + Hawk HP Plus brake pads on blank rotors.

Here is a past e-mail from Matt at Fortune Auto:

I run the shocks up around 12 clicks on the front, 5 in the rear for street use and full stiff in the front and 12-15 clicks in the rear for track use.
