1 Piece aluminum driveshaft

So recently I've been having some rattling from the driveshaft which is still the oem 2 piece driveshaft but all the play is actually coming from the driveshaft carrier bearing. Obviously nobody sells just the entire bearing, so I've been looking into a 1 piece driveshaft aluminum driveshaft sold by ft86 speed factory. But before making the purchase are there any reviews or suggestions. I'm not tracking the car and just using it for everyday driving. I am also on coilovers though.

hmmmm.......I haven't read about the OEM driveshaft going bad on a non tracked car .... ??

What part of the OEM driveshaft do you call the "carrier bearing" .. ??

How do you figure it's bad .. ??

;) a search will yield many thoughts on a one piece driveshaft.

Same problem as u, but its under warranty, so they're changing the whole gear system. Hopefully it all goes well

so pretty much when I got underneath, where the front and rear piece connect. there is a substantial amount of play where now when I drive it rattles and vibrates when in gear, a rattle noticeable when accelerating. if I can measure by my eye on how much play it has from moving it up and down I'd say about 1.5-2inchs. I do want to try just replacing the bushing but idk if that would do the job atm.

What "gear system" are they changing? How would it help the driveshaft from rattling?

Legit questions not flaming

There is up to 2 inches of play in your driveshaft u joint? I would be having it towed to the dealer if still under warranty. It is not pretty when a u joint lets go.

it's been raining a lot here and it's just out of the powertrain warranty. but when I can get back underneath I will double check. almost positive it's the u joint though.

DANG! If that bearing in the center is allowing the driveshaft to move up/down 1"-2", I wouldn't drive the car at all ..... if it snaps the universal joint, it could "pole vault" your car right off the road.

Are you sure the bearing is bolted down tight .... ??

Come back.

Edit ..... I see ol Tcoat was on the case ......

Yes!

The u joint right after the bearing only is designed for so much travel if the bearing is loose and it is traveling that much it could let go at any time. Unfortunately they never let go at low speed or torque. This comes from a guy that has snapped way more then his fair share of u joints.

it's literally the section right there where the t shape comes off. That's where all the play is coming from.

Guys, I think he's talking about the foam isolator in the pillow. OP, is it torn? Do you feel zero resistance until some contact point, or are you just realizing that the bearing floats in there?

so when I got underneath, I didn't notice anything torn apart but also I did not unbolt anything to get a closer look. I did check if the bolts were tight and they were. I'm just worried because I need to get it fixed asap obviously before it comes to worse scenarios.

Phothiraj 10-01-2016 03:51 PM

when I do get home I will try to show even clearer where my play comes from.

It's my understanding we are talking about the driveshaft ...... not the axles.

Speaking of pillows ..........:)

Do you need a nap ...... or do I ...... :D
