single wiper blade conversion

Does anyone have information on this? do we need to make modifications to the wiper motor? I cant find any information on this and it seem slike its going to be mostly a DIY type thing. Im guessing cut out a cowl in the middle, move the passenger side wiper motor to the middle and get a wiper big enough? :(

churchx 09-12-2016 01:13 AM

I'm curious, WHY would you want it? What gains there are? I know, mercs have single blade .. but probably pros of double blades everybody else in most cases have outweight pros (whatever they be) of single one?
P.S.
As other also might find it difficult to justify such mod, i doubt you'll find info on that here.

I'm assuming you want to do it #bcuzracecar, you won't see much weight savings from ditching the 2ND motor and wiper assembly, you would be sacrificing visibility as a single wiper in the center of this particular windshield shape would leave large unwiped areas in both corners.

You're limited by the height of the windshield. If a single blade in the middle was long enough to sweep both sides, it'd be sticking past the roof.
If you want a single blade, just remove the passenger one, and suffer the consequences of reduced visibility in the rain.

Take the passenger side wiper off and move the driver side wiper over to the passenger and call it a day, enjoy your lack of vision with your new gt car wiper.

Oh sweet lord.
Just hire somebody to chase you around when it rains. Can get rid of both that way.

there are no gains tbh. ive been going through old magazines and blogs looking at the original 86 corolla and taking a few mods off that era, and a single wiper conversion was a mod some did.

It was a dumb mod for a street car then and it isn't an better now. To each their own I guess.

You want a single, center mount wiper?

Remove the driver side wiper blade. Re index the pass. side blade, so it covers more of the drivers side.

If you want the blade to "park" on the drivers side, you'll have to re-index the linkage on the motor, to reverse the blade travel.

I've seen all of these done on minitrucks back in the day.

churchx 09-12-2016 01:16 PM

I'd rather look for retrofitting from already mentioned mercs that have one blade stock. IIRC due it extending outwards when sweeping, it manages to wipe more area then normal single wiper, thus less cons from leaving just one. Or much better .. drop the idea of wasting money/work/time on such mod.

Good luck. Minitruckers weren't much for tutorials, unless one of the magazines did an article, In general, we just figured stuff out, lol
