Regrease top mounts?

So my front coils are making a noise from the front strut when turning and I thing the bearings are dry and need more grease.

Can this be done just from the top or do I need to disassemble the coils to get underneath too? Do i need to cleanr the grit/grime out beforehand with say rubbing alcohol or just a q-tip or something like that?

It's been a while since I've looked at my stock top mounts (assuming that's what you're talking about) but I feel like you can see the bearings when you pop that little cap off. You could use WD40 to get some of the grime out, then use a lithium grease to lube everything up.

I could be wrong though, so maybe ignore that whole post.

If your top mounts have a spherical bearing, do not (re)grease with anything. They are self-lubricated by a teflon lining. Greasing them will only attract more contaminants. Depending on the quality of the bearing and conditions it has gone through, it is possible that lining has deteriorated. If so, you will need to replace it. I suggest contacting the manufacturer of the top mounts you bought and ask about service options.

thanks for the info, but it is aftermarket top hats (should have made that more clear since not all coils come with tophats.
