Gear problem....
I have replaced my clutch with South Bend Stage 2 Endurance. I have be breaking in for for 1000 miles now. While the breaking in process, i notices when i in a complete stop evertime, it won't let me get into gears, it seem like something is blocking me. Not only just 1st gear, it happen in in all gear include reverse. It will take me a while to get it into gear in a complete stop. Any ideas what cause it? I am thinking is the slave cylinder.
Thanks in advance! Ben |
It is quite likely the clutch fork is bending and not fully disengaging the clutch. This is becoming quite common.

No issues when shifting while moving? All is smooth then?

Clutch is dragging. You're still in the friction zone when your foot is on the clutch.
Did you ever adjust the pedal closer to the floor? Did a previous owner ever adjust the pedal? 99% of the time, that's the problem. By removing travel from the pedal, you reduce the travel of the slave cylinder. If both answers are no, you may be experiencing enough flex in the clutch fork to experience dragging. In that case, you may want to buy a stronger one. Either way, I would bleed the system and check the pedal height first. If you have air in the line, the slave cylinder travel will be reduced. |

Not probable but another possibility is that the clutch hub was not properly lubricated during installation, making the clutch drag.

I know this isn't what you want to hear @benlaz88 but this sounds exactly like the clutch fork issues we've seen/heard, and ultimately fixed with our machined unit.
Here are some testimonies from that thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...4&postcount=64 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=95 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=105 Here's a guy with a South Bend Stage 2 without issues with our clutch fork, perhaps contact him? http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=106 I hope you can get around it with adjusting the clutch pedal but I have a feeling that is a band-aid for what is truly happening. This is a real issue with these cars when installing upgraded pressure plates. By the way, I am local so we can meet up sometime and visually show you the Velox unit vs. OEM. Thanks, Eric |

If you need an extra pair of hands, or a foot :), feel free to stop by someday to bleed the system.

If it turns out to need adjustment, it all but proves your point about fork flex... Unless they screwed with the fulcrum rings, and messed up motion ratio to keep the pedal "feeling light" That said, I never liked the "clutch adjustment" DIY. The OEM spec'd a certain pedal travel, because full-face organic discs drag for a fair distance after they disengage. the friction zone makes up a healthy portion of the clutch travel. They didn't build in "extra pedal travel" just to irritate people. The slave cylinder self adjusts to take up the slack. Now, If one was swapping out for pucks, could they get away with going closer to the floor? absolutely. |
Ok, so i went to re-adjust the pedal above the break, its still have the same problem.. Also i have noticed when clutch is press and gear block from going in, i hear some hissing sound as well.
