Welcome to the forum .......
You might try hooking up a code reader to your OBDII port to make sure the port is working ..... humfrz |

Wrong section.
Also it would help if you told us what the error is. |
is the OFT turning on?
did you buy the OFT used? was it unmarried before you bought it? did you blow inside the cable connectors like an old Nintendo game? |

The oft can only ever be married to one car at a time If the oft read icon is grey it means it not unmarried from previous car. If the read icon is lit up its unmarried and ready to read in and marry up to new car. OFT will not be able to read in from cars that have a current BRZEDIT or ECUTEK tune in the ecu as those systems change the ecu access codes to lock you out. you will have to get a tuner with brzedit or ecutek to flash back a stock rom for you before you can marry up an oft or flash with other opensource tools like tactrix/ecuflash |
Talked to the OP. The OFT does communicate with the ECU since it can data display and log. The problem has only to do with ECU reading. So I suspect his ECU has already been flashed (and locked) by the previous owner of the car.

what options does someone have when this type of thing comes up? |

Unfortunatly its not easy to detect which system has locked ecu , it likey either ecutek or brzedit. In usa i would suggest ecutek is most popular. All you can do it try to access the ecu with both those systems and see which one can access the ecu, so you either find someone who has brzedit and ecutek and get them to try. I believe if you buy ecutek system they can unlock brzedit locked ecus, but check with ecutek before purchase, and their may be an additional charge The other option is replace ecu with a spare unit |

Unfortunately both ecutek and BRZedit change the ecu read/write seed key access . I don't think you can just change read or write the access to the ecu rom area is controlled by same seed/key access. So if ecu is locked its for both read and write. So dealer will have no access either. |
