How complicated is a diff install?

I've got a built pumpkin to install, and I'm wondering if I should give some business to a smaller shop or if it's an involved enough process that should go to a more established shop.

If anyone who's done it cares to comment, I'd appreciate it.

Know how to adjust backlash?

If you don't know how to, have a professional do it.

If you do, the install is quite easy.

1) lift car
2) disconnect midpipe on exhaust
3) pry out axles (but not remove it out completely
4) drain oil (or do it earlier)
5) unbolt driveshaft, loosen diff bolts, etc
6) support it with transmission jack
7) remove bolts, and as you slowly lower it, keep both axles as level as possible so that it comes out evenly on both sides
8) reverse steps for diff install

If you have a lift but no transmission jack, you can also do it via supporting the diff on a cart or off the ground, but you have less room to work with.

I just swapped mine back to stock on Tuesday in about 30 minutes of work with a lift.

When you put the axles in, make SURE the openings in the C-clips are facing down, otherwise you could hammer it into oblivion and it still won't go in. When it's right it will pop in with the heel of your hand, when it's wrong it won't go in with a 10 pound sledge.
