Tire Mismatching okay?

Hi! I wrote a thread the other day regarding best street tires.

My TPMS light jus recently flashed meaning I have to switch my tires out today. I ahve Ecsta 4X running in the front two tires while I have Ecsta 4X II running on the rear. (Previous owner did this) is it okay to run 4X II on the rear?? The tread pattern is similar but size of the tread patterns are different. Can anyone look into and tell me if it's okay for me to just buy 4X II?

you can run different tire size, brand and specs front and rear. but its generally a rule of thumb to run matching tires in each axle. for front and rear.

is your tire really flat, as in there's a nail/object or it's leaking air? if it's just low on air but not leaking, then you can just refill it with air and the tpms light will go away.

tpms light just means low air (or missing sensor lol). not "buy tires right now".

What he said. TPMS light comes on at about 29PSI, just means pressure is low. Has absolutely nothing to do with tread wear.

yeah... I remember the rule of thumb, however the ecsta 4x ii and ecsta 4x both have the same pattern, the tread pattern are just slightly different. Would using 4xii fit the general rule of thumb as it is technically the same tire?

unless your tires are so bald that there is an actual hole in them, then they will still hold air.

The TPMS light has nothing to do with the tread depth.

wires sticking out :/

Tires so bald that cord wires stick out? And you daily drive like that on public roads? There are no rules for minimum acceptable thread depth there? :/

There is, I just found out today though. :/ Gonna change it asap today. Basically in a couple hours, which is why I posted this up before I finish work haha

Okay, well Im going off work in 15 minutes so I am just gonna bite the bullet and get the ecsta 4x II again since the wheels worked fine originally.

Mr.ac 07-29-2016 10:04 PM

Well like others said there shouldn't be any problems. As long as you have brand A on the front and brand B on the rears that would be fine.

Having different tires on left and right sides, there will be issues. That's no good.
