Day Trip MPG malfunction

So recently I noticed that the Trip MPG indicator is malfunctioning, it reads from 0-127 mpg up and down, all around. It never stays the way it used to. I understand that it will reach a high number and gradually go down, but this is all over the place. Has anyone else noticed this or had this problem?

The standard average MPG indicator is functioning normally.

I recently installed a Perrin CAI. Not sure if it was on the fritz prior to this.

? That sounds normal. It read the instant how much u are steping on the gas.

if your foot isn't even on it it's gonna be into 100x.

Yeah that's what it's supposed to do. It's an instant MPG reading, so if your foot is completely off the accelerator and you are going at a sufficient speed it will read 127 MPG. Likewise, if you are accelerating hard, your MPG reading will be very low, and if you are on a flat highway with cruise control you can expect the instant MPG to be relatively constant, will jump around a bit depending on incline/declines of the road.

Two threads to ask the same question?

I'm guessing the other thread told him that he's on the instant MPG and not the average MPG?

Press the MPG button a few times to cycle around to the other reading.

Unplug the battery and re-plug it back in.

To answer all the above:

Since I am new to the thread I wasn't sure where to post the question. Like I stated in the original question, the average MPG is functioning normal. so by that logic I had already cycled through the options. I thought the question I asked was clear and to the point.

I disconnected the battery before I reached out to ask the question.

In the other thread I basically stated that I was wrong and I must have been expecting something to be going haywire since I had installed the CAI. I thanked everyone for their input. And now I will thank you for your input. :)
